Not my New Year's Resolution

Quote  |  Reply

I decided to lose some weight last December. I purposly started the week before New Years, so I didn't have to say it was my New Year's Resolution. In my experience New Year's Resolutions are usually destined for failure.

I diligently went on my treadmill, four to five times per week for about six months. I lost only 10 pounds. When I weighed myself in May and it showed I had actually gained weight, my motivation went out the window and there was no more treadmilling after that.

Now August is here, I'm 255 pounds, and all my pants are too tight. So I started anew last Sunday (7 days ago). I'm doing things a little different this time. Before I was just treadmilling and not watching what I was eating. Now I'm mostly watching what I'm eating and not going as hard core on the treadmill. Before my excuse to eat more was that I was exercising alot. But I think that diet is more important than exercise.

This site is telling me that I am consuming around 1800 calories per day, and burning around 2500 depending on whether I exercise that day or not. I feel alot better already. I have a little breathing room in my pants and am starting to feel overall leaner. My goal is 210 pounds.

I haven't weighed myself, and I'm not a fan of weighing. I've found from experience that the simple number that the weigher spits out can dramtically affect my mood and motivation. Maybe once a month I'll weigh myself, maybe not. I can judge just as well from how my clothes are fitting and how much energy I have, and if my feet and ankles hurt.

Anyway, good luck to all.

Chris
