New Rules of Lifting Book: worth it?

Quote  |  Reply

I've heared about the New Rules of Lifting For Women book alot on here. I have been stuck in a cardio rut for some time now and am looking to get out of it! From the title, and the reviews I saw on Amazon.com, it sounds like it could help. I assume it incorporates much more weight training. No harm in trying it so any input would be appreciated!

It is awesome and I highly recommend it. I had been doing weights for almost two years when I started it and it kicked my butt.

There's a lot of great information in there, specifically things like why doing 500 crunches is a waste of time, why everyone's precious cardio doesn't work for fat burning and really, just how to be a healthy woman with a great bod

If it's anywhere close to as good as the original New Rules of Lifting they could charge 4-5 times what they do and it would still be a bargain.

It is way awesome. I totally recommend it, especially if you're looking to switch things up and need a plan to follow.

The book is excellent -- the programs helped push me into a much needed boost where my strength training was concerned -- I had kind of fallen into a rut.  Not anymore :).  I'm in Stage IV of the program -- love it, love it, love it.  I  have definitely lost fat (I can tell by the way my clothes fit), my strength has increased and I feel great.  No significant loss of pounds, but I know I've lost inches (I should say I am not really trying to lose weight -- I'm happy with my body where it is in that department -- just more concerned with increasing my strength and muscle tone, as well as lowering my body fat percentage and staving off middle age!).  The workouts are tough -- there's no way around that -- but you feel so good when they're done -- that you've really accomplished something.

Does the book include "at the gym" plans and/or "at home" plans?  I don't have a gym membership as I don't live anywhere near one and gas is just too expensive these days.  I'm looking for things that I can do at home with minimal equipment.

Would this book be helpful to someone like myself?  Thanks in advance!

Yes, it does provide alternates for folks who work out at home; however, it expects that you will have some basic weight lifting equipment at home, i.e., dumbells, a barbell and a bench.  There are lots of substitutes for these items if you don't have them -- check out some of the threads that have been posted on here previously regarding home strength training equipment.

Well, I just ordered the book, since people are giving it such rave reviews.  I have been lifting pretty heavy for several years now, so I can't wait to see what this guy has to say in his book!

I'm waiting impatiently for the copy I ordered last week to arrive.  <tapping foot.....looking at watch....>

Yeah, it's here!  I read a good chunk of it last night, and was tempted to bring it to work with me today, but I know if I did I wouldn't get anything else done.  I've really enjoyed it so far...

Ooooo. Let me know what it's like when you get it fluffy. Hopefully the rest is as good as the part you've read so far Karozel. I want to order it, but am fighting with myself on spending so much money on a book. I did find it on amazon for a decent price but after shipping, I could just go to Borders and pay nearly the same.

In my opinion this book is totally worth it. Before following the plan I was just doing my own thing and not really seeing any results. After I started the diet/workout plan though, I noticed a huge change in just 3-4 months. I went from 25% body fat to 18-19%. Also, I did see a noticeable loss of inches in my thigh and stomach area (thighs were my main trouble spot).

I've been using this for a couple of weeks now.  And I love it.  I'm following the workout plan, and keeping the diet plan in mind.

Great!  I've been thinking about getting this book - now with all of your positive comments, I'll order it today!

Is this a book a beginning weight lifter could use? I'm just starting to get serious about lifting weight and was wondering if this would be  a good book to buy, or if I need to "build up" to it :-)

I just finished my 8th workout today and I am stronger then when I started by far.   I am a beginner and I work out at home.  So far I love it and will do phase 1 once more before starting phase 2 (because I am a beginner and I want to be able to do phase 2 with more weight).  It does kick my butt, but it's not too bad and I can already feel the results.

I can't wait to see what I look like in 6 months.
