I actually ran this morning!!! (Congratulate me!) hehe. So, the hardest part about running is actually starting, but I did something today to make it a little better. Usually I run around the quad on campus (a big square--3 laps equals 2 miles) and so do a lot of other people. I am always scared of people lapping me! Somehow, that has never happened...people are always running around in the opposite direction of me (even when I change directions...so it's odd) Anyway, I really don't like seeing that many people--it's embarrassing when I want to walk. All of that AND it's hard to make myself keep repeating one more lap. Boring and too easy to cop out of. So today I ran around campus, but not the quad. MUCH better. I ran most of the time (I was out for a total of 45 min, so that's good for me!) and I burned 420 calories (I have a heart rate meter--which I highly recommend! Mine is Polar brand.)
Okay. Well, I'm all hyper from my run, so sorry. I still hate running, but at least I did it!
Hi, seallain
I do not enjoy running but reading ur post has made me think of ways round the problem .I will be seriously trying a few ideas, once my grandchildren have returned home, just as I write this I am wondering if they might enjoy a little run round the block.
Hi Guys
I worked out this am and also hired a personal trainer beginning on Wed. I have a full gym and have been an exercise professional for 20 years and guess what, I NEED HELP! I think I can do this if I mixed it up some. So this will be a fresh go. I was 95 lbs at one time, that was without muscle and 20 years old. I should weigh 112 I would be soooo happy! Is there anyone over 50 that knows anything about weight gain I can chat with????? I still look good even with the extra weight, very tight and fit, and want to continue looking great!
Let me know, if you guys can help me.

Hey,
I'm so proud of me! I worked out this afternoon and made it thru 3 sets of a circuit!! and then did 20 min of cardio.... this is the first time I have made it thru the circuit this many times!!!! Yeah for me!!!!
Looks like everyone put in a good day of exercise so far. Good job all, keep it up.
I am in a new city and will stay for the next several months. I put my Gold's membership on hold back home and am using a new workout facility in my new city. I tried several gyms before I settled on this one. The problem is none of the group classes I have tried here are challenging enough. I guess I was lucky to have great instructors back home. I took a pilates class this morning which was not challenging, so I put in a strength workout at home on my own. I didn't work as hard as I do at Gold's with my group instructor, but at least I did something. I work the hardest in group classes, but I think I am going to have to go it on my own until I go back home. I ordered a good weight training book from Amazon so hopefully that will help. I will do a cycling class tomorrow and I'm sure that will be challenging.
Keep exercising everyone.
I put in 30 minutes in the sauna and then I did 6 laps at the pool after. I'm sure that my arms will be sore tomorrow - but I'm impressed - I did those 6 laps in under 15 minutes. I would have done more except that when I was doing it, I was the only one out there, while I was taking a small water break after the 6th lap, 3 people came in so I became shy and left.
Tomorrow is another day.
I'm also well below my 1200 caloric intake for the day also. My dinner didn't give me as many calories as I was anticipating, which kind of stinks. So, I'm kind of stuck as to what to do. I can snack on something to get my calories up there, but it'll probably be animal crackers which aren't the best. Hmmm...I wonder about cheese and crackers? That would probably put me as close to the 1200 as possible.
Also, I think that I may start doing my measurements again. Although I don't usually see too much of a difference in the scale (with the exception of this past week which was always back and forth), I do see an incredible difference in my body. I'm certain that I still have my old measurements written down somewhere from when I was about at the same weight as I am currently. It would be neat to see the difference. :)
Congrats to everyone on making it to their recent work outs, just getting there seems to be half the challenge most of the time! Funny how we all get self-conscious sometimes about working out, I think you just have to keep in mind that most people aren't actually paying that close attention to what others are doing, and probably even feeling self-conscious themselves. I definitely agree that using group classes and/or personal trainers are a big help, since you're less likely to stop your workout as soon as you'd like.
I'm lucky enough to belong to a gym where you get your own lap lane in the pool for 30 mins, unfortunately it's an hour's subway ride away now and I'm blowing it off for today. I did walk around Central Park for about an hour and a half yesterday, so having a rest day today is ok I figure. Plus the weather's turned awful. Am just gonna have to be good about calories (probably why I'm posting a few times already today, keep me busy and on track!), and maybe look up some tips on buying the right bike for myself...
