New Salad dressings

Quote  |  Reply
I know we are a bunch of smart ladies (oh and gentlemen) and we can
come up with a new salad dressing that is low in calories but great in
taste.  I have tried all kinds but the ones I like best are about
100 calories per 2 tablespoons.  The low cal dressings on the
market are just not good to me.  I like the taste of ranch and you
know it is so very popular...can we come up with one that is just as
popular with all that taste?  Anyone have any ideas?

Hi lurleen, if your interested in something new and different, I can figure out, the ingredients for my "turkish" dressing.

Gabi
I'm a ranch girl myself ... but I like the cucumber ranch. I tried the Cucumber Ranch Light (45 cal for 2 TBS), and it's not bad.
Thank you Gabi that would be mighty kind of you...thank you again

readnchick I have tried the light dressings and I just dont care for them...thank you for the suggestion.  I rather eat something tasty that I really like than to settle on something that is not so hot tasting to me because it may cause a binge attack...giggles...thanks girls
Hi, since I'm still not very good about adding all the calories together, I will just write down the ingredients and amounts.

This is for 2 cups of shredded lettuce, 1/2 diced tomato, 1/3 finely diced Onion (optional) and 1/2 diced medium cucumber.

2 tbsp Oil   -Pure Canola or Olive Oil-

1 tbsp Water

dash (0.4g) sugar

pinch of salt -to taste-

Real Lemon Juice  1/2 tsp at the time -to taste-

I hope you can understand it, and try it. Let me know how you like it. I love it, since I can controll all the ingredients that go in the dressing.  Sometimes, if I'm real brave, I even use it just to pour over sliced tomatoes.

Gabi
Ok, so it's not a creamy dressing but it's amazing and really low cal...

1 part extra virgin olive oil
1 part balsamic vinegar
1 pinch of rosemary
1 pinch of basil
1-2 fresh pressed garlic cloves
2-3 drops of hot sauce.

Shake and pour over any salad for a tangy, zippy, spicey taste.
i think newmans has this raspberry and walnut dressing its 70 cal for 2 tbsp...tastes great i mix like 2 cups of lettuce with 2 strawberries sliced up and then measure out the 2 tbsp, it goes a long way
The best tasting dressing for the calorie count is Kraft Zesty Italian = light done right.  Its only 25 cals a serving and really is quite zesty! My other favorite is Newman's Own light honey mustard - its 70 cals for 2 tbls, and has whole mustard seeds and is also very zingy and a little goes a long way.

I was a ranch fan for a long time, but now it just tastes salty to me.
i used to love ranch also, but then i experimented and found something i absolutely love.

i mix 1/2 c. rice vinegar, 1/2 c. water, and 1/2 c. olive oil, and add a few packs of splenda.  if my calculations are correct its about 33cal/T.  it is very light, and not too vinegarey.
i have been trying the walden farms brand dressings. they are no calorie/no sugar/low carb. i have found the basalmic best so far. no artificial colors, so don't let the look of it scare you. you can find them in at your local health food stores or big groceries with special diet aisles.
here is a recipe from my mom,

Here we go, so first you use 1 small pot of natural low fat yogurt that you pour into a recipient (where you are going to keep your dressing) then you add 1 tea spoon of mustard and some salt and pepper. Ok, now with your empty pot of yogurt that you have cleaned you will fill it up oil (anykind), then you fill up the pot half way with vinegar. Last but not least, fill up the cup with water midium temperature. Once evrything is in the recepient all you have to do is mix it up.

I know the recipe sounds strange at first but once everything is properly mixed it taste's great and very light compared to a normal dressing salad. A good thing to add is a bit of garlic. Well thats the french way (grandmother way) of making a salad dressing. Now i do not know how many calories there is per table spoon but anyway in a serving of salad you should just need one tablespoon of sauce.
Newman's Own "Lighten Up" dressings are pretty good.
i got this from somewhere, but i haven't actually tried it.  sounds good, though.

¾ cup 1% buttermilk
2 cups 2% cottage cheese
1 envelope ranch salad dressing mix

In a blender or food processor, combine the buttermilk, cottage cheese and salad dressing mix; cover and process for 20 seconds or until smooth. Pour into a small pitcher or bowl. Cover and refrigerate for 1 hour. Stir before serving with salad. Yield: 2-3/4 cups.

Nutritional Analysis: One serving (2 tablespoons dressing) equals 23 calories, 1 g fat (trace saturated fat), 3 mg cholesterol, 177 mg sodium, 2 g carbohydrate, 0 fiber, 3 protein. Diabetic Exchange: 1/2 fat-free milk
I like to use equal parts lowfat ranch and salsa, mixed in the blender
This sounds wierd - but works nicely!

2/3 C. Ranch - (I use Walden Farms - fat-free, calorie-free, carb-free)

2 T Bar-B-Que Sauce

Mix it up & Enjoy - hardly any calories and it's really good...

EASY HOMEMADE FRENCH DRESSING

1 can Campbells tomato soup

1/2 can vinegar (I've used rice,basalmic , white, apple)

1/2 can splenda ( or more depending on your taste

salt -pepper ( can add  garlic too)

put in blender............it's yummy!!  The original recipe is at least 60 years old...and it calls for sugar and 1/2 can of oil...............If someone can figure the calories ...that would be great!!but it sure isn't much!!!!

Good on fish too!!....this recipe has a super long shelf life

This isn't a salad dressing recipe...but I find if I have some flavorful fruit on my salad (blueberries, pineapple, mandarin oranges, etc.) and some green or red onion, I can be much happier with far less dressing.  I also don't care for the fat-free dressings on the market (tastes "gloppy"), but if I put fruit and onion on, I don't notice the dressing as much.  I think it is because of a big flavor boost, and also the moisture in the fruit.

When I am have extra time, I make my own ranch dressing using the powdered mix with fat free buttermilk and light or fat free mayo.  I also absolutely love the Olive Garden Salad dressing, it has 70 calories per serving and you can buy a bottle to take home with you at any Olive Garden restaurant.  For Raspberry Vinaigrette, Trader Joe's Raspberry Dressing has 35 calories a serving and Consorzio Raspberry & Balsamic Fat Free Dressing (bought at Harry's/Whole Foods) is only 30 calories for 2 Tbsp.

this one's only 20 calories  Tangy Orange Dressing

Not low calorie Classic Vinaigrette  and  Lemon Vinaigrette but they use healthy olive oil, so if you need to add a little fat to your daily percentage, it works.

this one uses the fat in avocado instead of oil Creamy Avocado Dressing

I make a creamy Caesar Salad dressing that is amazing.  I just added it to the recipe thingy.  Sorry, I dont know how to add a link to it.
