New Scale Makes Me Angry!!

Quote  |  Reply

I just got a new scale, and it says I'm 5-6 pounds heavier than my old one!  Granted, my old one was about 4 years old (analog), so it's definitely time for a new scale, and I'm pretty sure it's accurate...but now I'm back up to above my starting weight (according to scale)!  I am so frustrated!

I know, I know, the scale doesn't measure everything and I shouldn't go solely by it, etc.; I make an effort to only weigh in 3 or so times a week (I'd like to cut it down to 1 but we'll see), and concentrate on how I feel and how my clothes fit...but I just need to vent at how ANGRY I am about the scale!!!  ARGGGGGH definitely not a motivator at ALL Yell  Just makes me want to go eat a huge bag of M&Ms Frown

Thanks for letting me vent...

my new scale did the same thing but I was almost 8 pounds higher!
Same here lol. That's just the way the cookie crumbles :o)

xx
OMG the exact thing happened to me about 3 weeks ago. I hated it.. but the scale does go down from where the "new scale" started with more pounds. I promise. I have only lost 11 lbs so far, but it is a start...

Thats why I'm so worried about getting a new scale. Im about 60% sure that the old one is a bit out so I should get a new one really.
evemarie, that's exactly how I felt, and I figured I may as well get a new one and just suck it up...but it SUCKS!
I wouldn't focus on the number you started at.

Whether you lose 6 lbs on one scale or another is irrelevant. You lost 6 lbs.

The only frustration is your goal is 6 lbs further away, or 3 weeks.

Great way to look at it, roj, thanks :)

I knew I could count on  y'all to lift my spirits!

This is far from the first post I have seen about this subject.  I wonder what the phobia is called for 'fear of new scale purchase'?  I have it, whatever it is.
The Latin word for scales is Libra, so...

Libraphobia

A fear of scales. Can I patent that?  ;)

or novuslibraphobia

Latin for new scales. laughs

LOL me too. I should get one but mine is digital and I like it.  I am not getting a new scale till I am at my target weight. Then if it says I need to lose 3 lbs no big deal.

Novuslibraphobia.  It is good to know that from which we suffer....
I was so frustrated with the same issue last night that I came here looking for others. All I know is I read posts for 20 minutes and then ordered ANOTHER new scale from drugstore.com. I got carried away but got a super deal on the newest one. I just want to feel like it's all worth it!!

Same thing happened to me but my new ones made me LIGHTER!

So confused now..

Just wanna know what I really weigh?!

I'm gunna stick to the original scales though I think.. Always go for the ones that make you weigh more.. that way, when you've lost it all, it's almost as if you've lost EVEN MORE when you look at the scales which make you lighter! Gooood feeling I promise :)

same problem here. We had a scale that we knew was off but we didnt know by how much. We wound up getting a biggest loser digital scale, turns out it was 5 pounds off, but this new scale is great. It happens to the best of us
Yup went through this a week ago but now all of a sudden last night EVERYBODY in the house lost about 4 pounds?!?!?!  Which was odd since we had a big dinner for my birthday!!  So confusing.  I just got off the phone with the wife and we decided that we will just trust what the scale says until we are down to our ideal weight and then we will find an accurate scale somewhere and see how close it is.
In case you ever need it (or just want to imagine it) there's a great thread in the motivation forum called "101 Ways to Murder a Scale".

I bought a scale a few years back. It is the best one I have ever purchased. It is pretty close to my doctors weigh-ins. The only difference there I have everything on. At home I have everything off. But I still get the same readings. Go figure, eh?! But is sure beats alot of confusion.

With previous scales I would get weighed at the docs office. Then come home, still with clothes on, and reset my home scale until it read the same at the docs. Now I don't have to do that.

I paid more money for this scale, but so far it has served me well. Infact, I bought it in 2004. I just checked...it is called a "Health-O-Meter". It is a good sized scale, with a huge face/dial on it. With different color moveable markers. Even my mother and my husband were real happy with this one.

Get this, my daughter comes here to weigh herself, and so do other people. They say, that compared to their's, that mine is the most accurate...ha! I wonder if I could make money selling tickets for weigh-ins???...ha!

I had the same problem.  I bought a new scale at the beginning of the week and it  said I gained back the 5 lbs that I just lost.  But I have also lost 3.5 inches around the waist so that's keeping me going. I had a digital one but it was old and finally quit.
I have that problem too! The scale at the gym says im 7 pounds heavier then my one at home, HOW RUDE!! i told my boyfriend and he said that every scale  is out just a bit, they cant all be perfectly accurate, so stick to one scale and just let it be :)
