New to this site...a bit frustrated!

Quote  |  Reply

Hi... I am new to this site.  Started 2 weeks ago, have been

eating very healthy, logging all of my calories and sticking to the

1250 calories this web site recommends for my current weight/height

and goal.  I also started Curves 2 weeks ago and have gone 4

times each week.  I weighed myself today for the first time

and have only lost 1 pound.  I am very frustrated.  I have been doing

everything right.  For the first time ever I am eating healthy and exercising

consistently - all at the same time...  but not much of a weight loss.

I don't really know what else I can be doing.  I am NOT cheating on my

food and log every single bite.  Eating very clean and small, healthy

meals throughout the day.  Any advice, input would be greatly appreciated!

I have been GOOD for 3 weeks - cals below 1300/day, exercising 3x week (walking so far, but about to add circuit training)

I was down 3lbs last week and they are all back ALL BACK.

Talk about FRUSTRATED.

Supposedly its water weight or something. I donn't really know yet, I have no replies.

I am going to lose my mind (up in here, up in here) if something doesn't happen soon!!!! I need something to fit better or some scale to look better because this IS NOT FUN to be putting soooo much into something and getting HA HA HERE IS YOUR 3LBS BACK in return.

That's exactly how I feel!  We are working so hard, doing it

the right way and it's not coming off.  I don't expect to magically

lose the weight but I do expect to see some changes when

I'm making so much effort.  Keep me posted!  Hopefully next week

we will have better news!

hey check out this link:

hopefully our "gain" will be disappeared next week. *fingers crossed*

edit: my gain, your plateau. :)

Thank you so much for finding and sharing this!  It's exactly what I needed to

keep me motivated.  I figured it had something to do with gaining muscle or water retention.  I am short 5'1" and I tend to build muscle very quickly.  I guess I just need to be patient and hopefully I'll see results shortly.

Thanks again! :)

Renee

1250-1300 calories seems pretty low to me personally.  Maybe its not enough for your body so its storing things.  Maybe try increasing your calories by 250 or something.

Another thing.  Dont give up.  Its about consistency and eventually results will show.  It might be frustrating but it all will pay off eventually (its only been 2 weeks).  Remember to let yourself have some dessert too every once and a while! You deserve it!

Absolutely what I needed to hear right now, as well. THANKS :)

I just started calorie counting too, don't get too  frustrated.  If you are doing everything correctly the weight will come off.  Just keep it up, and I bet the next week you will see a few pounds drop off.  This mathematically just has to work, right??? LOL

I started at 1600 calories per day when I was over 12 stone and now eat 1300 as suggested by the site once I had dropped a stone. It does work which is why I have lost well over a stone and a half since Christmas with little to no exercise.

You just need to be patient as 2 weeks isn't a very long time. Also make sure you are counting your calories accurately. Weight loss the healthy way is a very slow process so you need to wait months rather than weeks to see a noticable result.

You may be putting on muscle mass, which is much heavier than fat. If this is the case, a more true measure might be if you are able to squeeze into a smaller size outfit. Second, cardio is great, but if you really want to lose weight, you need weight training at least three days a week. Do the cardio training on the days you don't weight train. Muscle burns fat - fast. You need to build this up. Third, you should probably feel pretty good, meaning, your energy level should be better than ever. Fourth, you many need to redifine why you want to lose weight. It is best to lose weight in order to obtain a healthier lifestyle. Simply trying to tie weight loss to self-esteem will make it very easy to get frustrated and give up. Whatever you do, don't give up. Every time you excercise, look at it as a long-term investment. I promise it will pay off in the long run. It might even be a year from now. The important thing is, you made a start.

I think you are doing great.  Yes, the important thing IS that you made the start.  I used to lift weights a lot in my 30's and 40's but my shoulders begin to go south on me, and I used to dread the workouts.  Now, I lift weights for only 15 minutes a day, but fairly vigorously.  I ride the exercise bike and walk a bit and do a few crunchers.  I much more enjoy my exercising now because it is "laid back" and not goal-oriented (i.e., lift so many pounds, etc.).  Another thing about muscle is that during the night while you sleep, the body will burn more calories because of the muscle.  Don't get discouraged ever!  I went 8 days exercising hard and eating around 300-500 calories less, but my basic weight stayed the same.  Then on the 9th day  I had lost 3 pounds.  I recommend strongly a high, healthy protein meal and 2 glasses of water for your first meal of the day.

I certainly want to obtain a healthier lifestyle. I want to feel comfortable running and playing with my kids. I want my knees and ankles to stop hurting (from carrying WAY more weight than they should). However, if I'm completely honest, it's the idea of being able to look good in a nice outfit that is really motivating me right now. I lost several pounds about 4 years ago (with the same motivation) and put it all back on, plus another 25 pounds or more.

How do I shift my thinking? I think this is going to be my "long-term" challenge. Any suggestions?
