New to this site!!!!!

Hello - I would love some input -  I started eating healthy and exercising cardio 5 days a week and three days a week weight training in Feb 2009.  I joined a gym and it has become my new hobby.  I love what I am doing.  I am starting to feel frustrated because to date I have lost only 19 pounds.  I started at 285 - today I am 266.  I have been 266 for almost 5 weeks.  My calorie intake from this site states that I should eat 2200 calories a day.  I have been eating 1500.  Has anyone else had such slow results?  I work harder than most "in shape" people (that I know) - eat less, drink 100 ounces of water, two cups of coffee...tea....fruits - vegies - lean meats.....no soda - no wine.....

I think that I just need to hear from others who have been down my road....that its going to be okay....if you can help me understand that - I will feel so much better!!!!  Thank you for your time!

Hello,

According to some reading i've bein doing it can be because of two things. First, maybe you have a slow metabolism and it will take you more time to lose the same as someone with a fast metabolism ( don't get frustrated, just be patient because at the end you will lose what you want to lose ). Second, it can be because your body started to get used to the diet and needs just a little bit of time to get back on losing. If it is the second option, then you would have noticed that you've lost a lot in the first weeks/months .. and then it had suddenly slowed down. So in that case too, you just have to be patient. I'm talking about one week or even just a few days and you will start losing again.

I hope I helped you. Both ways everything will be okay, you can start feeling better ;)

Don't give up, you are doing great, think of your body when you'll reach your weight goal, and think about the 19 pounds you've lost ( it is quite something ), and keep doing what you are doing ;)

Good job on your initial weight loss!  It sounds like you are not eating enough.  Because of your starting weight and excersize level you really should aim for 1800-2000.  If your deficit is too high then your metabolism will slow down to compensate.  You're going to have to lower your daily calories as you lose weight and get closer to your goal weight so why start out so low (1500) now? I started out at 288 lbs and eating 1800 calories a day and I'm currently down to 194 lbs and I still eat 1800 and am still losing.  I walk 4-6 miles 6 days a week for excersize.  Try increasing your calories!

Wow look at what you have done!!!!!!  I am impressed.  Okay - I am going to up my calories.  How long did it take you to lose almost 100 pounds?  I love to hear that people have done this.....

Youve only been going for five weeks. Come one man, its gonna take time. just stick with it. remember excellent bodys sometimes take years. its gotta become  a lifestyle for you. burning fat is the easy part but gaining muscle is tough. continue to do cardio and weight training and always ask your self at the end of  your  work out " DID I REALLY PUT ALL I HAD INTO IT" if not go back in there for round two. in the end your only cheating your self. good luck Bro !!!

Thanks, it's been a little over a year since I started.  It hasn't been easy, there have been a lot of ups and downs.  I've managed to keep my eat calories the same by upping my excersize as my weight has gone down.  Weight loss can be frustrating at times.  Some weeks you can lose 1 or 2 lbs and then go weeks before another loss.  You need to be patient and stick to your regimine and the loss will eventually come. Good luck!
