Hi all, I'm Amanda- a 24 year old mom of 7 and 2 year old girls. I have been a member of calorie count for about 2 years now, but I always lose motivation and stop coming back. At this point I'm realizing how important it is to have people to talk to who are in similar situations. So, what's so different this time? My 7 year old daughter is in first grade. She came home from school last week, moping because a couple of boys (who I have never seen, btw) were teasing her because her mom is fat. I wanted to cry. So, here I am again, to stay. Me being made fun of...fine, whatever, I can deal with that. My daughter? No way. Not over something only I have control of.

Anyway, I'm a stay at home mom. I rarely get out of the house because the hubby works 45 min away and we share one car, and don't live near a bus stop. I get bored, and I used to just hop on the computer and eat junk when I was bored. I was on autopilot. So now, I'm trying to change my autopilot to fitness....not fatness. The past 4  days, I have worked out. Each day's workout gets a little more intense as my endurance grows. Surprisingly, I'm not sore or tired like I thought I'd be. I feel good. Anyway, I have rambled enough. I just thought I'd introduce myself.

Gosh that made me tear up... I can completely see my own daughter coming home like that...

Good luck!  You will do great!

I just had my third baby 3 months ago and have heard a few comments myself. My 1st grade daughter so innocently said that I look pregnant again! I gained 50 pounds! I lost about 25 but I was 153 to start with.(10-15 overweight).

Kids can be mean. I'm glad that you want to be healthy but do it for the right reason-you!

I'm also a mother of two, only they are much younger! My little girl is almost 2 and a half and my son is 11 months today!

At my whole of 26 years old, I've got so overweight that I have very little interest in fashion and looking after myself that it is actually terribly sad. The weekend before last I took a good hard look at myself, and started on Monday to do something about what has become a big problem.

I have 19 kgs to loose (about 40 lbs) and it just seems so out of reach. Exercise is difficult because of the time factor, but I have managed to fit some in. My other big problem is I get HUGE afternoon muchies (sugar slump I think) because I'm not getting enough sleep with the kids. This week has been particulary difficult- as I sit here I just want to nod off- because we had a burglar (armed with a tire iron, screwdriver and hammer) break in at our place. i haven't quite caught up on my sleep from that adrenaline rush.

I just want a big fat piece of moist caramel/chocolate cake!

Anyway, before I ramble anymore, it does help me to read other peoples success- it helps me to dream about my own- and hopefully it will be a reality before next summer (RSA summer= December).

So good luck to all the mommies that feel like I do!

Ugh. My 4-year-old daughter walks up to me yesterday and says "Mommy! The baby sister is growing!" as she pats my tummy. Even though I only have 5-ish pounds to lose in order to get to pre-pregnancy weight (6 months post-partum) my stomach is definitely fatty, jiggles and is out of shape (after a second c-section). Oh, well! At her age, she tells it like it is!

I agree, kids can be mean. Most of the time they're just being honest. They haven't developed the mental filter that makes adults think before speaking. However, in your case, manda102301, they are being downright mean. As tough as it is to see our kids get teased for something we are responsible for, sometimes it's what we need to TRUELY stay motivated and not give up until we acheive our goals.

In the meantime, tell your daughter they're jerks and she'll meet people like that her whole life (and how to deal with them!). Okay, don't tell her like that but in 1st grade terms :)

Welcome and congratulations on taking the first step in your lifestyle change :)

the 2nd baby ruins your tummy! After #2 for me i lost all the baby weight and 5 more and my waist was 2-3 inches thicker despite lots of ab work!

Kids can be so cruel! I find that those type of comments really fire me up and make me want to do something about it.

You're headed in the right direction. Just don't let a bad day or week get you down.

If others can lose hundreds of pounds and completely change their shape it is possible for anyone.

Keep it up !
