I am proposing we start this thing up again. I am looking to start some serious weight loss after my race is over. I do my first 1/2 Ironman on June 20Th! I am looking forward to it. You may think, I must have just dropped pounds from it, but I actually gained! There are other factors involved as well, but I need to do some losing. So I am going to begin on June 21st. My goal is to lose 20 pounds by christmas. I think that will give me enough time to realistically realize my goals.
What do you guys think? Should we start up again?
Smader, I think it is a great idea. I'm gonna give it another try as well. last year I felt really great around this time, but somehow i let go and while i do some running once in a while, i'm not nearly as consistent as i need to be in order to loose weight or at least keep it off...
christmas sounds good to me too...
but enough talking, i need to put some time in the elliptical (am in jerusalem, where running outside is nearly impossible because of the heat!) - that's a start, at least!
The elliptical sounds great, a good alternative to running outside. It is nice to be outside too. It is not too hot here. Actually this morning was really nice, 55 degrees, perfect for running. Keep it up it is a great way to burn calories. I also need to stick with it, get that heart rate up!
Today I went to a swimming pool and managed to log in 45 minutes while my mom entertained my daughter in the shallow end. It felt great to do something other than what I usually do, but I was surprised to find that it didn't feel to hard to use a different set of muscles than I usually do (breast as opposed to legs) Maybe I wasn't doing it hard enough ;-)
What are you doing these days to keep yourself moving? I know you compete a lot, but what do you do on ordinary days? Do you do days off?
Am really glad we're back at it, Smader - it's easier for me to stay motivated when I'm active here too :-)
Swimming is great! Sounds like you had a great set up with your mom able to watch your daughter.
Umm Motivation. I guess I just like exercise, running etc. I am now training for a half marathon so that keeps me moving. Otherwise, I lift weights because I know it will help lose weight. I think that I make it a routine so if I don't work out it feels weird and my day is thrown off. I try to take one day off or easy and that tends to be Mondays becuase the weekend I usually do long runs and long bike rides. For me my biggest problem is eating too much especially during parties or weekends away.
Start slow and keep doing things you enjoy, that is the best way to stay motivated.
that sounds so like me, Sara, but unfortunately i also fall out of the habit of excercising when "life gets in the way" of the regularity of it, and then I feel that i have to start all over again - and that's when motivation gets hard. My body certainly also feels much better when i'm excercising and this is what gets me back time and again - i just wish i were better at sticking with it despite the "interruptions"...
i think it's really awesome that you're able to stick with it-- about the whole food issue, have you tried doing the "i'll fill myself on tomatoes and cucumbers before i go to the party"? or is it more the drinks that get in the way? (they usually are for me - as Linda said, what's the point of one beer ;-))
I have tried to fill my self up before I go out, sometimes it works. Othertimes I eat just as much as I was gonig to eat before and now I have eaten a ton because I ate before AND after. Drinks definitly get in teh way. Unfortunatley I love good beer, good high calorie beer. So I need to either just not drink at all or find some taste for lo-cal beer. We shall see....
I hope everyone has a good weekend. I am going camping and hoping that it does not rain. And that I exercise enough to burn off all the smores and other treats :)
That used to happen to me as well - the eating before and eating again at the party... but I used to be good at it.
I just got back from camping by Tiberias - there was a lot of drinking and eating, but i declined all things alcohol but ate whatever was there, just not in large quantities - today, however, we passed by relatives of some of the friends who were with us, and I ate THREE pieces of incredibly sweet cakes.... I guess I was hungry, because I usually never eat sweets - don't care for them too much....
Now I'm back in Jerusalem, and while my cousin invited me over for hot dogs tomorrow night, I still think that being back in town will make it easier to fill up on healthy things - perhaps I ought to try the "eat before I go out" approach again...:-)
Well I did not do the best this past weekend, except I didn't drink too much which is a bonues and I had diet soda as a mixer. So this week I have been busting my butt and I am reallllly hoping to see a difference on the scale on Friday! I am going to try my hardest this weekend to be good as well. It is so interesting how I will work so hard all week to throw it all away over the weekend..... I guess I need to work on that
I really want new clothes and the holidays will be that time! (it will take me that long to lose the weight I think)
Smader, I guess if we were to never let go, it would only be a diet and not a lifestyle change... I'm having the same issue and have been checking around here what others do, and it seems they do a weekly cal cuont instead of a day to day one, and that leaves them with room for drinks etc during the weekend...
another reason to love our friday weigh ins ;-)
