Be sure to submit your weekly mileage to the World Runners Thread

Edit - Sign up here for the New Year's Virtual Race!  Indicate which distance you plan to complete (5k, 10k, or 13.1 miles if you are brave) and check back to cheer on your 'competitors'.

If you need info about a Virtual Race, click on one of the links below for our previous races.

Please plan to complete your distance sometime around the 1st.   I'm going to say no earlier than the 29th, and no later than the 6th.  Indoors, outdoors, walk, jog, run, doesn't matter.  Just remember to post back with your time if you want to, or just to say you completed the distance.  I will add a roster eventually (before the race for sure).

Best of luck!!!!

Original post:

The last virtual race we did was for the fall equinox, and we haven't yet discussed when we might do another.  Is there any interest in having a New Year's race?  We can do 5K and 10k, possibly even put in a 1/2 mary distance if anyone is interested.  I'm always open to adding cycling as an option too, in addition to our 'regularly scheduled' running and walking.

Here's a recap of our previous races

v1.0 - St Patty's Day

v2.0 - 4th of July

v3.0 - Autumnal Equinox

I'd love to participate.  I might even do the half mary depending on my program schedule.  At any rate I will definetely do a 10K.

Happy running.

Going to set this as a sticky for a day or two, want to make sure we have enough interest for the next installment, or if we need to put this tradition to bed.  :)
I'm in!  Definately for the 10K, possibly for the 1/2 if my training has progressed that far by then. Wink
I'm in. I may still be walking, but I can do 10K no problem.

Will know next week if I can start jogging again.
I'm in for the 10k

I'm just starting the site, Cool i'd be in for the 5k walk, in hopes by then i'd be able to up to a 10k walk!  Not up to jogging quite yet.....Wink
I'm totally in for a 10K to welcome 2008!!

Er...what's a half mary?
Oh, I just figured it out.  A half marathon.  I'd be up for that.
i'm in i am already doing a half on the 13th so if that doesn't count i will do the 10k.
Sure, bring them on! :)  It will give me something to train for, as I seem to be finding it harder to motivate myself to get outside with the coming cold weather.  I need to get back up to my 1/2 marathon distances, so I'd be up for that.

Can you explain this?  Everyone just walks or runs on their own?  If you are not a runner - can you still do this????  Is there time to train?

I am a new runner, hence would be interested in the 5k. how does this work?

Sure!

Im in for 10k :)

in regards to how this works, you sign up and then on the 1st plot out a course and run it, walk it, run/walk it whatever, then you can come back and post your time.

I use map my run to plot out a course. also here are some tips for beginners and here is the couch to 5k plan to help with your training. and lastly, if you are going to be training for this why not contribute some miles to the run around the world thread it's one of the best support groups for runners on here, everyone from beginners to advanced are encouraged.
Hi, I'm new to this site but I'm loving it! I would love to participate in the 10k race!Smile
I would love to do a 5k!!!

Hi, I'm new to this site. Can i do the race on a tread mill?  It will probably be icy where I am.  I would love to do the 1/2.

I totally flaked on the equinox one because of craziness at school.... However I would like to aim for the 10K.  I'm doing a 5mile on Thanksgiving so this will give me motivation to keep going even through the Christmas season.  I'll be BUSYYYYYY but I'm up for the challenge.

One question... Can I do it the 2nd instead of the 1st?  I'll be driving home from visiting family in OHIO on the 1st.

Cynthia :-)

Glad to hear there is interest!  I've edited the top post and added a bit more information.  If your questions weren't answered explicitly there, then please click on the links to our previous races (especially the first one, as that top post is pretty informative.)

If you still have a question after reading, then let us know!  :)

Good luck to all who are planning to participate!  Hopefully some of you will be able to sign up for local races and send us some pics, too.  :)  I don't know yet if I will go solo or find a race, but it's always more fun to enter a race than to go it alone.  :)

How will we know if we did the right amount of miles if we are doing it in the house? I don't have a treadmill
