New here....wanting to lose pregnancy weight...Breastfeeding mom
Hello,
Im new to this world of weight loss..no idea about anything...sadly....I have NO clue about carbs, protiens, diet pills, fatten food...etc. I always ate what I wanted and stayed a decent weight. Now I had a baby and cant get rid of those last 15 lbs. I entered in all that stuff when you sign up here in my profile nad found that I should be eating 1700 cals.....but I am breastfeeding, should I eat more? and Of what? And if i exercise....then what? I eat more? And is it good to drink milk or bad, ive heard both......oh...my things are so confusing, i sure hope someone can help.....pls be patient with me..Im clueless in this diet world...
I'm sort of in the same situation. I was always skinny & ate whatever I wanted whenever I wanted it... until I got married and had a baby!
I've read that you need a minimum of 1500 - 1800 calories while nursing. I think it depends on the age of your little one. If you have a newborn, make sure you eat like normal for the first couple of months so you can establish a healthy supply of milk. Then gradually lower your calorie intake so you don't suddenly lower your supply.
When my son was born 14 months ago, I lost all my baby weight within 6 weeks... but then ate like I was pregnant for the last year and gained it all back! I'm still nursing him at night. But I am not his main food source, so I'm on a 1650 calorie plan. The site suggested 1250, but I increased in on my own fall within the suggested 1500-1800 range. I'm 5'9" with a medium-large build and I'm generally eating between 1500 and 1600 calories a day. I'd say that if your profile says you should be eating 1700 cals a day, increase it by about 500 calories and that should be enough to keep up a healthy supply.
Other research that I've found shows the more super-healthy and higher-protein foods, the better. I'm no doctor, but I do know that it's been hard to figure out what is right for me to do in this situation. Just gather all the facts you can and do what's best for you and your baby. Kellymom.com is also a pretty good resource.
Oh, and you should absolutely drink milk! It's good for you and your baby... although I did have a friend who's little girl had a lactose-intolerance problem and she couldn't have dairy until after her little girl was about a year old.
I have an 8 month old son and started dieting about 5 months ago.
The one thing to keep in mind is your milk supply. Dieting can effect the amount of milk your body makes, so I'd talk to your Doc about how/when you should start dieting. Mine told me when I started dieting to remember my pre-preggers cal intake and add about 300+/- 50 cals.
There is another thread about breastfeeding moms and weightloss on this topic. Its really good!
&nb sp; The best way to be a good milk producer is to eat plenty of greens and whole grains especially oats. these don't have to be fattening ofcourse. Think like a cow. A cow doesn't drink milk ti get more milk. Greens and grains. Oh and don't forget the water. This will keep both of you very happy.
I'm nursing my 5 month old son and have been losing weight since he was born..I was overweight to begin with but I've lost all my pregnancy weight PLUS an additional 10 + lbs.
I started out eating when I was hungry and then I ate about 1800 calories and have GRADUALLY lowered the amount of calories I eat...I've lost a total of at least 51 lbs now...
I would eat about 300-500 EXTRA calories from what they SAY you should and gradually reduce it.
As far as milk goes,I never drank it while I've breastfed either of my boys..I use soymilk, but I think as long as you eat healthy thats what matters.
