New Year's Weight Loss Count Down... Starting September 2nd Ending December 30th...CLOSED!
Hello everyone, here is the Group Plan Layout.
I will be closing this after I get my first 25. I think we can get to know each other a lot better if we keep it small. It hasn't grown as big as I thought it would over night, but I am looking for more people to join.
So, 25 is the number of people I'm looking for.
As for weigh'ns. I would like to get that ball rolling as well.
Every Monday will be our weigh'n day. Starting Monday 8th.
I also want us to share our plans for the month ahead.
Focus points will be giving monthly.
This month Focus points will be.
Water 60oz to 80oz a day.
2 Fruits per day. " To cut down on sugar cravings."
1 salad per day and Steamed Veggie. "We need veggies in our diet."
Chewing gum. To deal with those no no cravings. Just chew gum if you know you ate something just 10 mins ago. I always grab fruit- but gum does work.
Cardio every day, and resistance training twice a week.
And share your feelings when you feel you are going to jump the wagon. We need to share so we can help each other.
What is your one goal for the month? " No matter what you choose, work on that one goal for the month. It really pays off."
My one goal for the month is to get back into my cardio workout.
This is a start.
Hit the road happy, and let's make this happen.
( The rest of the story about this group is in motivation.)
and the results are in..... 184.25.... i lost 3/4th a lb.... not a full pound.... but i am pleased, being that i didnt loose not a lb last week....
this weekend my goal is stay away from the alcoholic beverages..... my drink is grey goose vodka and tonic, which isn't horrible calorie wise.... but when i drink, I EAT..... fried chicken, french fries..... no will power to food once i am little buzzed.... so if i have a drink..... it will be a dry merlot that i have to sip..... you cant gulp down a dry merlot.... that will take me longer to consumer and i wont get as buzzed.... that way i can strong and resist the "drunken binge...."
good luck ladies on your weigh ins!!!
Here's a tip: Hershey's sugar free chocolate is a good substitute when you are craving a little bit of sweetness. Each little bar is only 33 cals and it tastes like the real thing! It really has helped me avoid "diet-busters" over the last couple of weeks!
Good luck this weekend, everyone! Keep up the motivation!
Sarah
Hi, Everyone,
I agree. Weekends are a huge challenge for me too! I have to mentally prepare myself and plan ahead.
The scale said that I was 113.5 this morning which means that I lost 3.5 lbs since Monday but that will definitely go up when I weigh myself on Monday (we have 2 birthday parties this weekend).
Thursdays are very hectic for me since I work all day and than I have a class from 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm. I packed my dinner to eat before my class but my last meeting ran over so I only had 5 minutes to get to class and skipped dinner. I don't really like to eat at 9 pm so I just had a bag of 100 calorie popcorn.
Plus, my husband told me last night that he's being laid off from work on Monday so my tummy is fluttering around with butterflies and I don't have much of an appetite. :(
Yellagirl, that's a great idea- I just want you to know that..
I weigh this morning, and I was 149. I lost a pounds, now lets hope I hold that pound lost. We are going to taste cake this after noon. A friend of mines is getting married, and guess what.. I get to taste the damn cake. Why did I sign on for this task? I don't know, but I do know cake and a good one when I taste it. :)~ ONE SMALL PIECE, HOW IN THE HELL CAN I GET A GOOD TASTE OUT OF THAT! :)
For everyone who weigh in today congrats on your lost in weight. I see we got a 3 pounds lost in here as well.. GOOD for you Queen, you are doing a great job, and keep up the good work.
Yellagirl, just think of that as...... 3/4 less weight to lose girl! You are going to get there.. We all are. If I leave anyone out.. I'm sorry...
EVERYONE IS DOING A GREAT JOB HERE, AND LETS KEEP THIS POUNDS MOVING OFF...... GOOD JOB EVERYONE... GOOD JOB..
smh, Thanks for that tip. I am going to have to try that one too.. I love this group already, you are all coming into this group with great tips and great advice.
Yellagirl, don't for get to load up on some type of fruit, can or bag it doesn't matter, just get some fruit in.
TIP of you all.. Eat a grapefruit with breakfast, lunch or dinner. The acid in that grapefruit helps burn some of the fat you eat. I normally have one after each dinner.. It really helps because I save room for that grapefruit so I eat less..
Tip number 2 for you all.. Push for 10 mins in during your workouts.. That extra 10 mins really does pay off... Give it a try.. You will like the results..
Fridays work for me! I was 208.2 this morning, down from 210.0 on Monday!! Woot woot!
My biggest challenge at the moment is drinking enough water. I'm trying to drink 3L a day, and for awhile was doing that no problem. But the last few days I've been drinking hardly any! I need to get back in the habit of having my water bottle with me at all times. :)
Great job to everyone and keep up the good work!!
PS. I have a wedding to go to tomorrow, so I might cheat a little. Hope it doesn't show on Monday lol.

I love grapefruit, but can no longer eat them because of the way it interacts with many medications such as blood pressure, cholesterol, and heart. Grapefruit speeds up the bodies metabolizing of the medications which means you get to high a dose being absorbed quickly, then nothing later in the day. I agree with lynnhaslost that its great for increasing burn rate but not when your taking medications.
My Friday weight was 163.4. Am still wrestling with fluid retention problems. Left ankle was slightly swollen Fri night. Sat am was 165.4! Go figure.
I think I've got some fluid retention too - up more then a pound today. Guess that's just more proof that I need to get that water in me every day!
The grapefruit tip is great, but honestly, I'm not much of a fan. If it's the acid that helps, are oranges acidic enough to do the trick as well?
Thanks Bobev, for the tip. I didn't know about that.
So like Bobev said, can't do it. So if you are taking any kind of meds for Blood pressure, cholesterol, and heart.. Please don't do this. Thank You Bob, this is something I needed to know... I'm not on meds for any of those things, but my father is and he's a fan of grapefruit, and takes a pill for his heart as well. Has a pacemaker- so thank you. I can tell him that grapefruit juice he drinks could be making his heart run away from him. Thanks so much. Thank you.. The doctor did say it was okay for him to drink O.J. LOL... But the grapefruit juice is a no no for him for ever.. I will make sure I tell him tonight.
I'm not sure about oranges, but I do know about the lemon, and lemon can help with the same thing too. I normally have 4 drops of lemon to a reg bottle of water, and it helps me as well. It also helps with my heart burns. I don't know why it helps, but it does help.
This morning weight.... Wasn't good at all. I tasted 10 baby cakes and guess what. My weight was 152, and I told my girl friend.. You have to help me lose this.. I will see her at the track Sunday after noon. We are going power walking. The wedding is coming up in a few weeks, and I can't even wear my dress now.. Its a little too big, and I have to get it taken in. I hope mom can do it for me.. I'm too scared to do it myself. LOL! If not. I will be a little loose.LOL! I have too much room in this dress. I know for sure I can fit 10 more pounds in here.. I did get a size 16 at the time we got the damn dress, and I wanted to go for a 14, but I wasn't sure if I would be a 14 by the time of her wedding.. I am, and she is not mad about it, she just thinks it's funny.
How everyone doing this weekend.

That's one of the hugest Myths out there; studies prove that the grapefruit has nothing to do wt more fat being burn; true, it's healthy and keeps you from eating too much lol:)
I don't know about you, but I don't think it's a myth. You can take it like you want to. "Cricketro05"
Now, in a new study by the Nutrition and Metabolic Research Center at Scripps Clinic, researchers have confirmed that the simple act of adding grapefruit and grapefruit juice to one's diet can result in weight loss. The grapefruit diet is not a myth!
With its high fiber content and low glycemic load, grapefruit may be a secret weight-loss weapon. Research suggests that dieter might be more successful if they select foods with staying power like whole citrus that help curb appetite and prevent overeating rather than employing some of the current fad diets. It has been shown that a person can actually eat large quantities of food without consuming too many calories by choosing foods high in fiber and water content. Such foods include fruit, vegetables, whole grains, legumes and some soups. For example, oranges and grapefruit rank #1 and #2 in fiber out of the top 20 most-consumed fruits and vegetables. Studies provide evidence that they provide a greater feeling of fullness and keep blood sugar levels more constant resulting in better appetite control.
Current dieting studies suggest that dieters should focus on eating carbohydrates that have a low impact on blood sugar. This has led to the concept of Glycemic Load (GL), a ranking of food based on its carbohydrate content and its impact on blood sugar level. A GL below 10 is considered low. The GL for a half grapefruit is 6.
In a 12-week pilot study, led by Dr. Ken Fujioka, doctors monitored weight and metabolic factors, such as insulin secretion, of the 100 men and women who participated in the Scripps Clinic "Grapefruit Diet" study. On average, participants who ate half a grapefruit with each meal lost 3.6 pounds, while those who drank a serving of grapefruit juice three times a day lost 3.3 pounds. However, many patients in the study lost more than 10 pounds.
"For years people have talked about the grapefruit diet, and some even swear by it, but now, we have data that grapefruit helps weight loss," said Dr. Fujioka, principal researcher at the Nutrition and Metabolic Research Center at Scripps Clinic. "Our study participants maintained their daily eating habits and slightly enhanced their exercise routine; the only dietary change was the intake of Florida grapefruit and grapefruit juice."

Still having fluid retention issues, ankle swollen last night again. It looks like I'll have to take diuretic everyday to get back to whatever normal is. The good news is that W8D1 of c25K, a 30 min run, was easy yesterday at pace of 13:05. Will work on increasing speed beginning next week after finishing the program.
Goals for the month of Sept:
Stick to my eating plan with min deficit of 500 cal/day
Complete Couch to 5K training program
Convince cardiologist to do another stress test soon so I can run more aggressively
Remember: We can do this!
Never give up!, Never look back!, Can do!
PS: I think its drugs.com that has information about drugdurg/ and drug/food interactions. Its been a few months since I did mine and input all my drugs into it. It should be able to reveal which drugs should not be mixed with grapefruit.

Well gaining weight always sucks when you are trying to loose. I will try to do better this coming week.
Hey Everyone! I am excited to announce that I am back down to 207. As for my goals and the focus points: I spent the entire weekend (except for a few hours of work last night) focused on myself and went to some fun events and enjoyed the sunshine. I have done well with drinking water..my beverage of choice, I don't think I had a single salad last week, but I did go to the store this weekend and got plenty of salad ingredients, my fruit intake has been good on some days, but pittiful on others. I did some form of cardio 4 out of 7 days this past week, but failed to do resistance training. Overall, I would give myself a 5 out of 10 for the week. I am hoping to improve that ranking by next week.
Congratulations to everyone who has lost! To those who have gained or stayed the same, we all have bad weeks, but you can do it!!!
Finally, I have a fun rewards system for my weight loss during this competition: For every pound I lose I am going to put $5 in a decorated jar. At the end of the challenge, I am going to use the money in the jar to treat myself to a day at the spa. Let's hope I can reach my 20 lb. goal so that I can do more than get my eyebrows waxed. ![]()
Diva, per your question, I am 5' 6" and 207lbs.

I am doing better since last week with my ER episode.. so maybe it was just a reflux thing? I dont know, but I am doing better--with that anyway.. I had a bad weekend starting early on Thursday and Friday with eating (went out with hubby and friends).. was doing so good too, dammit! And now to top it off, I am coming down sick.. woke up yesterday with sore throat, fever, headache, etc.. hasnt improved yet.. grrr.. Today is opening at YMCA, and I am too damn sick to go! I am going to rest up today and drink tea and water and hopefully feel better tomorrow.. I already eat an orange everyday with breakfast, maybe I will start having grapefruit too..thanks for the tip and info Lynn! That cake-tasting sounds like it was fun :).. what kind did your friend decide on?
I like the money in the jar idea. I think I'm going to do the same thing but just alittle different. I have to lose an average of 1.4 pounds each week to reach my goal. If I lose the 1.4lbs i'll put $5 in the jar if I dont i'll put $10 in the jar.
Thanks

We are going to get this weight off, we just have to keep hard at it. We are going to do this. We are-we will-we must.................
Wendy, I am glad to hear that you are oaky, but now you got a cold.. Girl, you need to drink the O.J. and have some soup. Lot's of it. If you like peas, do a pea soup for dinner if you can't eat anything else. My mom always gave me.. Chicken noddle soup for breakfast and lunch and pea soup for dinner when I was sick. It's always helped. I'm sorry you not going to see the inside of the YMCA, and you will get down there in a few days.. The kind of cake she went with was a white cake, with white icing, and green and yellow/pink/light blue flowers all over it. I'm glad it's loaded with icing, because I will not have one bite of the wedding day, then the woman said, she can make that cake with out all the calories, so she went for that. It's a cake made for a Queen she said.. It's going to a disney style cake with snow white on it. My friend loves snow white, and she wanted to get married at disney world, but she can't afford it. :(
Karabs, U have the same idea I have. With the money, but a little different than mines.. When I lose a pound a week or more I give myself a dollar or more, and my jar is loaded with dollars, and when I lose a half a pound I give myself 50 cents. I lose nothing I get nothing :( If I gain back a pound or more I remove that amount :( My jar has 76 dollars in there, still not enough to get what I want. I'm saving up for a cool leather coat, One that comes with a belt. I've never had one of those coats.. I'm going to get it in December.. My kids are going to take the money give it to Ma! And it will be from them. Because I am doing this for my kids.. Losing the weight.
Bobev, Can you get a list of foods you can eat from your doctor. I know you know it's your meds that are making you have water weight gain. See if there is something he can do to get rid of this water weight gain. It could be something in your diet, like too much soduim. Please check into that.
I have faith that we are going to be a few pounds down.
Now! WHO HAS A TREADMILL, STATION BIKE, TOTAL GYM, ELLIPTICAL, OR ANY TYPE OF EXERCISE MACHINE IN HOME. USE IT RIGHT AFTER DINNER 30 MINS OR AND HOUR, AND DO SOMETHING FOR 30MINS.. THAT WILL HELP OUT A LOT. EVEN A 10 MIN WORKOUT PROGRAMS WILL DO. GIVE IT A TRY RIGHT AFTER DINNER, AND IF IT'S A BRISK WALK.. DO IT AFTER DINNER. YOGA OR PILATES, ANYTHING JUST DO IT.
We have to push ourselves. Let's do this, okay!
