New to the world of veggie.

Okay, so as of tomorrow I've decided to go veggie. My reasons are partly because I want to try use it to lose weight and partly because I want to check my willpower (I'm a super carnivore >.>). I'm not too concerned about the animals. Am I doing this for the wrong reason?

You're not necessarily going to lose weight by going vegetarian. You can still eat Lays, Doritos, Hersheys, onion rings, french fries, hell Oreos are vegan. Just being vegetarian doesn't mean being healthy.

oreos are vegan???LaughingLaughingLaughingLaughingLaughingLaughing

Your motivations for adopting a vegetarian diet are entirely your own.  There's no single or 'right' reason :-)  As other people have remarked, 'going veggie' is no guarantee that you'll lose weight, but you'll probably find it easier to drop a few lbs if you replaced some of your meat-based meals with vegetable-based ones.   It also means you get more variety in your diet and that's never a bad thing.

Haha yeah which kind of creeps me out a little..

If you're trying to lose weight and test your willpower, I would think it would be easier to just try and be healthy.  Making yourself get cheese pizza instead of meat lovers doesn't mean it's healthy.  Lots of vegetarians are just as over weight and unhealthy as the omnivores.

That said, the only 'wrong' reason I can think of to turn vegetarian would be to for some reason feel justified in an "I'm better than you because I don't eat animals." mindset.  Not doing something just to say you can do it when others don't is just annoying.  Other than that, I think it's cool. :)

if you want to test your willpower, you might want to try something my family has done.  We're from India, and though we are not vegetarian, any time I'm at home, two days a week are "given up" for God.  So basically its a fancy religious way of saying we go veg on Thurs. and Sat.  It's a great way to clean out your meat system without being too hardcore about vegetarian, and it's also a nice way to test the water, so to speak.  Going cold turkey...(hee hee)...could be a little hard.  But your reasons are your own--it doesn't matter what they are, you don't need to justify your choices.

I have tried before and it was mainly to try and be more healthy and lose weight. That didn't last long.

This time I educated myself and watched videos, read books and frankly I don't miss putting that stuff in my body.  It sickens me. Not only the cruelty which is very inhuman but the stuff that gets into the meat that we eat and feed our children. BARF!
