New York visiting, but.... where to stay

Quote  |  Reply
Hallo all.... Finally booked flights for partner and myself to visit New York. I have never been out of Europe....

I have located a good hotel near Madison Square gardens, but do you have any better ideas I should consider before booking?

Will be over November 23-26th brrr....

Plan on seeing Ground Zero, Central Park, Empire State, Liberty and take from there, so Madison seems fairly central to these sights.

Kind regards

Hopefully you will get a response but if you don't drop an e-mail to Rahana, a CC user, and I am sure she will have lots of suggestions.

Hey there are tons of places to stay.  You have indeed found a good hotel near Madison Square gardens but I have to tell u it is probaly one of the most expensive also.

IF your flight arrive at JFK airport, there are really nice hotels 5-10mins from the airport that are cheaper. There are also tons of transportation from JFK to NYC itself so that wont be a problem.

I can get some more info for u with regards to hotels but I need some time.

Get back to u . :)
MSG area - which hotel? MSG feel is hustle, bustle bustle during the day as MSG is above Penn Station but the dining and night life are not the best. Also, that is the weekend of Thanksgiving holiday so that area will be full of people attending the MACY'S Thanksgiving day parade. Most of the hotels then are full of marching band teenagers so you may want to rethink mid-town and stay more down-town i.e. Greenwhich Village or Tribeca.  The village is great - I think there is a hotel called Washington Square Hotel that is right by Washington Square Park (which should be added to your list of "To Do".  The Club Quarters is also a great hotel.  Also, you must hit some of the museums that are fabulous too!  Top of the Rock is the best view of the city at sundown - highly recommend that.  Have fun.
Thank you for the quick replies. I was informed last night that I am booking the hotel on Saturday :( Talk about fast planning.

The hotel I am looking at is the vinnci avalon.

I feel a little awkward on talking costs as I really like a good holiday break, so looking to around $300-$350 per night for a double room.

Regards
