Hello all
I am new to the group (and newly diagnosed with celiac disease). My weight has flucuated SEVERELY in the last four years, namely in the last year and a half. I am 5'5, 21 years old, and have weighed anywhere from 105 (sickly skinny) all the way up to 165lbs (people actually asked me if I was pregnant). I am currenly at 133 lbs, and while losing weight is not the most important thing, I would like to get a bit healthier and not have my weight fluctuate so badly.
Now that I know why my weight gain and loss was so severe, and have taken drastic steps to avoid gluten, I hope it will be a bit easier to maintain a healthy weight. Any tips would be greatly appreciated!
Monica
Hi, I am 47. I was diagnosed with it only in 2005. All my life I had the problem. Most of the time I was really skinny, but then I'd just put on plenty of weight and then it would drop again. The fluctuations were almost 60 pounds. The last years before I got diagnosed I just lost more weight and became extremely skinny with a BMI of 16. Once I quit gluten the pounds just piled up and...... stayed. I gained pretty much 2 pounds per month and have now put on 60 pounds. So, That is why I look for ideas and "moral support" from others here.
I was off line for a couple of months as I felt depressed about the weight and... had more food and comfort food.
But, Now I feel really committed and have already lost 8 pounds (only 52 to go).... Na, I want to get rid of 40 pounds.
I too have been really depressed about the weight gain that has followed my diagnosis... I know its a result of our bodies finally being able to absorb things after being unwittingly malnourished due to celiac, but understanding the why doesn't make looking in the mirror any easier... Like the rest of you, I am still looking for a good solution to this...dieting is difficult enough without seeing that most of the food suggestions won't work for you (Nutrisystem actually told me there was no way they could accomodate my food issues. Weight watchers does let you eat what you want, but staying within their "points" is difficult without high-fiber foods). I just started using the calorie count website, and I'm hoping that it will make this a bit easier, as there are no suggested foods, just a search engine into which you can enter your foods, see how healthy or not they are, then chose whether to add them to your food log. I'll let you all know if this works...

Oh! I also found that slim-fast makes a gluten and lactose free shake...if you can find them, they're pretty good.
Hello, I just joined and couldn't believe it when I saw there was a celiac forum.I was diagnosed about 4 years ago. The first year I lost alot of weight because I couldn't eat anything. Then I found some gluten free foods at the health food stores and a few "regular" stores carries them. Well now I have gained the weight back and then some. I love the rice and the pasta which has alot of carbs. I thought I would try this site as like you I tried Weight Watchers and the others and they don't help. I am hoping this will. I am going to check on the slim-fast shakes you mentioned. Thank you.. Only thing good is I feel alot better after years of feeling bad. It took doctors a very long time to figure out what my problem was. Now I feel better but can't get my eating to where it should be. Well, I am glad I found this place,I hope it works.Thax for listening...
