Newbie with little dieting history

I was always too skinny. REALLY TOO SKINNY. In high school, everyone thought I was sick because I was so thin. Turns out, after 25 the pounds start adding on. Typical hip and thigh additions, and I've gone up a bra size in the last year. I'm 37 now and have been taking medication for about a year that (according to others taking the med, not the doctors, of course) tends to add even more pounds to the hips and thighs. I'm weaning myself off the meds and trying to get back to a normal for me range of about 145 - 150. I know it's only 20 pounds or so from my now 165 at 5'9".  I know I don't have the problem a lot of people have, however I am not happy with myself right now. This is for me.

I am on the edge of what is considered a healthy weight according to all the scales and charts and numbers. I want to be in the middle not on the edge. Problem? My husband does most of the cooking and it's all SOOOO good. Proportion is an issue and calorie count has told me I'm an emotional eater. Never thought of it that way though. I'm trying. I'm walking 3 days a week 1.6 miles in 20-30 minutes.  I've succeeded before on a low carb diet, but that was 10 years ago and when I tried it again, it appears that I need my carbs or I feel like CRAP!  Cross your fingers for me!
