Newbie Looking for Christian Friends to Partner With

Quote  |  Reply

My name is Robin and I am new to this site. I am 41 years old and I was on the Biggest Loser Online Club, where I lost 32 lbs. so far, but couldn't afford to keep paying for it. I had a wonderful group of Christian friends on the message board there and miss them already! We would encourage each other, pray for each other, and make each other laugh hysterically! It would be great to find a group, like-minded in our faith in Christ and who want to break free from our addictions and hang-ups with food. I would love to hear from some of you!

My husband is a Baptist pastor in Oklahoma, where I lead the worship and the women's ministry. We have 3 great kids ages 19, 14, and 7.

Blessings,

Robin

Hello and welcome!  I lived in OK until 2 years ago - not Baptist, though.Wink  I'm finding LOTS of encouragement with CC - stick around, post messages, write in your journal, and add some friends!

Where did you live in OK? I live in Coalgate, in SE part of the state. My parents live in Shawnee and my sister lives in McAlester.  I hope to enjoy this site as much as the BL site. Haven't navigated thru everything yet, but it is pretty similar. I actually like the data bases for food and activity here a lot better. It is a lot bigger list to choose from and you don't have to enter as many of your own nutrition facts as I did with Biggest Loser. But BL taught me a lot that I can implement here for free. I guess you can be forgiven for not being baptist! LOLTongue out

Well, I hope I'm forgiven...I'm actually church of Christ (I know, one of THOSEWink).  Hung out with a lot of baptists in high school, though...

I was in Duncan, OK in high school, went to Stillwater for college, got married, then moved to OKC (Moore) while I went to grad school.  We were in that house for 10 years - longer than I'd ever lived anywhere my entire life - it was DEFINITELY time to clean out the closets!Tongue out

So how long have you been using this website? Has it helped you? I had been on Biggest Loser since the end April and lost 32 lbs. I hope to do as well here.

32 pounds is amazing!  Good for you!

I've been here since the beginning of May - I've only lost about 16 pounds, but almost 3 inches in my waist!

This site is an incredible tool!  I have learned so much from the knowledgeable people here, and I always have somewhere to go when I need to vent or need support.  This is where I learned about the weightlifting book I am currently using in my workouts (love it!), and how protein and fiber fill you up, and about a routine-building housecleaning website that I was in DEFINITE need of.

It's amazing to think that I only came upon it from one of those junk points website.  I soon dropped the points website, and I'm on here nearly every day.  Quite addicted, I am.

Hi Robin. This is an amazing place and it is FREE!!! I too, am not a Baptist, but I love Jesus and that practically makes us kin :0) I have been using CC since July 7th and have lost 11 pounds. :p  I am glad to find other christian women who are attempting to live healthier and more productive lives.

You must be busy with children and worship. My husband and I are deacons in an evangelical church in Virginia. We are busy with church, but I also have two boys who are 3 and 5, and I go to college full time. I love calorie count because I am very methodical and I can be really consistent.

Good luck and congratulations on your 32 pounds!!

Congrats on your 32 pounds so far :)  That's a lot of weight, you should be very proud!  I've been on this site since June and have lost 30 pounds so far myself.

I'm sure it's great to have Christians to pray for each other, but you are also going to find a lot of support on this site even from non-Christians like myself.  I don't believe in anything and I've lost 30 pounds without praying or anything like that, so don't be afraid to buddy up with people who don't share your beliefs.. they can help you just as much :)

I'm glad to have gotten some positive responses on here.  Sounds like it is working well for those who have joined up. Are ya'll going by the recommended calories they give you? It's pretty comparable to the biggest loser site. Only they give you a range of calories, protein, fiber, etc.  each day that fluxuates so you are changing things up. But so far I am pleased. I plan to weigh again on Monday so we will see how it goes.

I'm not sure of the name of the last person who posted who isnt' a' Christian, but I certainly don't mind you taking part in the postings.  The support is welcome from whomever gives it.

HI Rhurban...What is your real name? Wow...sounds like you are busy too! Keeping up with two boys 3 and 5 is a job all on it's own!! My 7 year old is like having 10 boys!!  Very rambunctious and active! AND you go to college too full time?

Sounds like you have gotten a good start on the CC website 11lbs. since July is great! Where do you live in VA? I have a good friend from church here who lived in Alexandria, I believe. She was a Washington DC police officer. She has been a great help to me in encouraging me in my weight loss. She is very fit and we walk together quite a bit. We have tried to start a fitness group at church, but it didn't pan out too well. Lots of interest at first, but in the end, it just ended up me and her.

It's great to hear that you and your husband are willing servants for the church. Hopefully you have a wonderful church family. We have a really great group here. Very loving and anxious to grow closer to the Lord. We are going to see Beth Moore, Kay Arthur, and Priscilla Shirer in December at the Deeper Still Conference. How big is your church? We aren't very big at all, only about 130 or so in worship.

Well, my family is waiting to watch a movie together, so I better run. I will check back on here later...

Take care,

Robin

My name is Ruth. I'm not comfortable posting my exact town in an open forum, but I live in southern VA, not near Alexandria. My husband is my biggest advocate for getting in shape. I'm not overweight by CC standards, but I had gained about 30 pounds since we were married (10 years). Most people in my family are obese and I have two sisters who have had gastric bypass. I really wanted to take control of my eating habits before I reached that point.

We have a great church family. Our church has a Bible college and there are probably about 400 people any given Sunday. Smaller churches can be just what a new christian needs because it is HARD to get lost in the crowd. Our church has to make an extra effort to be sure that no one is neglected.

Hope it's a good movie,

Ruth

It doesn't sound like you will have to worry about having bypass surgery, but I can understand your fear of ending up like your family. CC lists me as reeeeally overweight! LOL But I have gone down at least 2 sizes into a size 16, and getting into a tight 14 in some clothes. I think my 19 year old daughter fears ending up like me, even though she is tiny, she is very conscious of her weight.

Sounds like you have a great church.

Hope to hear back from you soon and have a great day!

Robin

Hi!  I'm Pam from Maryland checking in.  I attend a Baptist Church as well.  I'm a little older than you and my kids are grown, but I'm here to provide support as well.  I've been a member since 2006 but got serious about 14 months ago.  So far I've lost almost 50 pounds but have been pretty much stuck all summer. I've made a few great friends here, both believers and non-believers and I'm sure you will find a lot of help here.  Good luck and welcome!

Hello,

Im Taryn. Raised AME but now I go to a Full Gospel Church (denomination not important to me) You can always message me if you need support. You will find a little but of evrything on here. I've been on here 2 months 2 the day and have dropped about 20 lbs (179ish to 159 as of yesterday) So the support has been awesome for me.

Hello! Guess the Lord wanted us all to meet today. It's my first day on here as well. Just found by accident when I was trying to find the calorie count of the eggs I ate for breakfast.

I am 49, been Baptist for 43 of those years. Been a Christian for 37 of them ! I am way over weight and have been so discouraged. I take a lot of medicine and often wonder if that does help with some of my weight gain. It is very discouraging.

Well, here goes a great time. If I don't even lose weight, I will have met new Christian friends and maybe our mansions will be next door to each other!

Kate,  Having been a believer for 37 years I have had lots of non believer friends in those years, several at this time.

What I find interesting is that you chose to come onto this site knowing Robin was looking for Christian friends to interact with.

I am happy to be somewhere to recieve encouagement from anyone. Thanks for answering the call to the site.

Renae

Hi there!  I'm new, too.  Just started today, in fact.  I, like many members of this site, found it by accident when i was looking for the serving size for graps...:P

I'm 21, been Christian (not really sure of the denomination of my church, but it feels good to have god in my life)  for only a few months, but I thank god every day for my best friend who helped me to be saved.  Before that, I was Episcopalian (barely) for 20 years.

My eyes have only recently been opened to how over weight I am, thanks to caring friends and family and a medical scare a few weeks ago.  I know I'm not as bad as some, weight-wise, but it's having a bad effect on my health.  I've gotten as far as I can by myself and could really use the support of a group, to have people to talk to, laugh with, share tips with, and, hopefully, share a success story with.

I am 245lbs right now, but I hope to lose about 10 pounds by this time in September, because I'm going to a ball and I want to be able to wear my prom dress from high school agian.  But over all, I want to lose weight so I can have more confidence in myself and so that I know I'm healthy.

Wow!! I"m so glad to see so many new faces all in one day!! It may take me a while to get to know everyone! But if you stick around, I think we would make a great support group for each other. Does anyone know if there is a way to adjust the message board so that the last comment is on top instead of on bottom of the page?

Dear "toast"...At my heaviest I was also at 245. Started this journey at 237 and weighed in yesterday at 202.5, so it CAN be done and this is the right way, I am convinced. A diet will always fail, but eating healthy will last a lifetime. And I have found that giving this food addiction problem over to the Lord and letting Him take it over has been such a freedom for me. I have been able to have an occasional splurge, such as a couple of pieces Paula Deen cheesecake I made for a small bible group, and I was able to limit myself to only those 2 pieces and I actually gave the rest away. It was such a victory, because I could have literally eaten half of it one day and the other half the next day if I was in my old mindset. And it was Paula's "Luscious Lime Cheesecake", nonetheless! So that was REALLY a victory!!

As long as we all believe in Christ as our redeemer and Lord, then denominational lines really mean nothing. Believing in Him as the Way, the Truth, and the Life is what matters.

Welcome to everyone and Hope you all find success here. Sounds like several of you have already been doing great. Keep it up!

Let me know about the top/bottom of the page thing if any of you know what I can do. I like to read the most recent posts firsts.

Have a blessed day!

Robin

Robin,

Thank you so much for your words of encouragement.  Even though I believe in myself, it's really nice to know I have other people rooting for my success and fighting the same battle.  I really do believe that the Lord will help me with my battle, because He can see that I really want this with my whole heart.  But what makes me happiest is knowing that no matter how I look, He will still love me as long as I have Him in my heart.
