Newbie question regarding coffee creamer
Hi Everyone!
Today is my first day. I have been eating well but something that always gets me is coffee creamer. I am not sure what a good replacement would be. Does anyone have any suggestions.
I use fat free or 2% milk. It took some getting used to, and of course it's not flavored, but it's a partial serving of dairy. In my opinion, it's better to use natural products over packaged, processed products. You know just what you are getting.
splenda makes coffee flavoring packets. I'm sure that + milk would give a similar effect :)
Or you could buy the sugar free coffee flavouring syrups.
Coffee Mate has flavored sugar free creamers that are only 15 cals per tablespoon.
I used to use creamers and cream for my coffee and switched to first 2% then 1% milk. Now I just drink it black. Someone once told me that coffee creamers have the same ingredients as paint in them so I thought I'd google to find out if they (my friend not the creamer!) were full of it (I couldn't find anything so I think they were). I found this article which was something I didn't know either and from a more reliable source than my friend.

I used to drink creamer, it was the only thing that gave my coffee a decent taste. I've tried different sweet creamers and the powdered creamers, but they all either taste disgusting or like a bucket full of sugar (regardless of the 'flavor'). Recently I tried to switch to Soymilk creamer, but the taste disgusted me so much that I switched to fat-free milk and haven't gone back. So...try the soymilk, either you like it or it'll turn you off to creamer for good, hah.
I use 1% milk, and if I'm craving flavoring, I add ground spices (cinnamon, pumpkin spice, vanilla bean) to the coffee grounds before brewing, so that the flavor infuses into the water...
I don't know if this applies to you, but my dad likes cream in his coffee, and it is because he prefers his coffee to taste less bitter, more mild. Maybe you also prefer a lighter-tasting coffee? If so, you might experiment by using lowfat milk and switching to a lighter roast, or using less coffee when you brew? That way your coffee isn't as strong, and when you add the lowfat milk it will still taste mild enough?
Also, don't know if the creamers you were using were the flavored kind, but give adding spices like cinnamon to your coffee grounds a try! It really adds a nice flavor without the artificial ingredients.
Sorry if I'm not very helpful! ![]()
I use Fat Free Half and Half (land o' lakes makes a pretty good one)
and a packet of Truvia..
I've tried just using milk, but I can't stand the watery taste it gives the coffee..
I use 1/2 teaspoon of the Folgers Instant Mocha Chocolate powder (15 cal), one splenda packet, and a little dash of skim milk. So delicious! And trust me, 1/2 teaspoon doesn't sound like much, but it plenty!
I use Fit&Active French Vanilla Non-Dairy Creamer. It's fat free and only 15 calories per tablespoon. And it tastes fantastic :)
I switched to vanilla almond milk.
I could never drink coffee black. Its too strong and too acidic. I've been able to wean myself off of sugar/sweetener, but have never able to get away from some sort of milk or cream.
My solution is to choose milder blends of coffee. I can't stand starbucks, it tastes burnt to me!. I also add LOTS of skim milk (like 5-6 oz for a 16 oz cup of coffee) and often drink flavored coffee and/or add a dash of cinnamon. Just be sure to include the milk in your food log.
I realize the posts are from July but just joined a month or so ago. anyway my daughter started using "whipped topping" she uses the can kind but if she is out she uses coolwhip in the tub also. It is pretty good and fun.
