Newbie Vegetarian; what's the best veggie burger to buy?
hey everyone =) so I'm really starting to think about becoming vegetarian. I was wondering what the best type of veggie burgers or stuff like that to buy thats low in calories but yet good for you? I have absolutely no clue what to buy.. =/ Thanks so much!
I like the Boca ones. Garden Burger has some nice ones too. It all depends on what you like best. I hate Morningstar Farms veggie burgers.
Garden Burger makes this black bean wrap thing... it's really good. It's a black bean patty wrapped in a tortilla with salsa in it.

If you like hotdogs morningstar farms does make a good veggiedog they taste like real hotdogs. I also prefer the boca for burgers. I think they have one called american flamegrilled or something like that ?? I prefer that to the original.
I also like to make "BLT's" with morningstar farms "bacon" :) yummmm cant wait for the fresh tomatoes to come in this summer.

i get yves burgers
I like White Wave 5 Grain Tempeh in burgers.
I forget which, but one of the brands has weird stuff (preservatives, ew) in their burgers, although most don't. I think it was morningstar.
If you're looking to save $ and there's a Whole Foods near you, WF sells veggie burgers under their house name brand 365. They make several varieties but I'm only familiar with the vegan kind, which are good.

Boca "American Flame Grilled" are the best if you want something simliar to a cowburger. The other Boca varieties are OK too. Morningstar is decent, but not as good as Boca. I have yet to have a store brand patty that didn't just plain suck (haven't tried the 365 yet, we just got a WF a couple months ago).
Also try the Boca and Morningstar "Chik" patties, and you might also check out Quorn if you can find it.

Or you can make your own using lentils or TVP. Allrecipes had this one that looked pretty good: http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Lentil-Cakes-Pat ties/Detail.aspx
Well I'm not a vegetarian but I love the Boca Vegan burgers. For a make your own Alton Brown's Split Pea Burgers look good (I haven't tried them yet).
I've been vegetarian for a few years and I echo what the others say about Boca; however I think the Morningstar Farms burgers are quite good as well. My favorites:
Boca: Grillers Vegan Morningstar: Spicy Black Bean Morningstar: Mushroom Lovers Burger King: BK Veggie (best thing for veg's on the run, be sure to hold the mayo and cheese if you're counting cals.)
Hope this helps!

I think the Burger King veggie burger is disgusting.
Money's Vegy Burger is to die for~!
My carnivourus Boyfriend even likes them! There full of mushrooms and cheese and other good stuff! I also love the Presidents Choice burgers. There expensive but they have one made out of five different mushrooms and swiss cheese. *drool*
Ive found a lot of Presidents Choise products to be very very good. The Worlds Best Meatless Meatballs are great. I bought some yesterday.

morning star's spicy black bean burger's the only one i'll eat!!
.... it does not try to fake a meat taste but has it's own black-bean based flavor

BK uses the Morningstar Farms Veggie Burger and I think it's absolutely delicious (The Morningstar Farms Veggie Burger itself, not the BK sandwich)...
Boca burgers taste kinda funny to me but they're ok I suppose... I'd rather go with Morningstar...

wow!, thanks so much for all the suggestions! It definatly helps me 100% =)
Morningstar makes the BK Veggie patties now, but I don't think they are the same as any of the Morningstar patties you can buy in the store. I don't think they're all that great either, but they are better than the original BK Veggie patty, which was pretty awful.
Ruby Tuesday makes an awesome veggie burger if you are out with friends :) I get mine with barbeque sauce instead of cheese and mayo, and usually take half home since it's so big!
I prefer the breaded and fried kind - the Boca Spicy Chik?n Patties.
I'm not a vegetarian...yet....
But I've tried 2 different types of veggie burgers Yve's and Boca.
My favourite is the Boca Burgers - they are the best! They taste like they've just been BBQed to me.

Nearly all the "fake meat" in my supermarket is from Yves. They make several veggie burgers: I like their "Prima Veggie" burger (warning, it's not vegan). It's good imitation beef.
I just tried another burger that doesn't taste much like meat at all - the Original Mountain Burger. It tastes like veggies in a spicy sauce. It's made without soy - there's less protein than a soyburger, but the two top ingredients are lentils and wheat flour so they're getting complete protein that way. There are no additives - not even vitamins and minerals (there are obvious plusses and minuses to this). It's a totally different philosophy from Yves.
I think Mountain Burgers are yummy and can't wait to finish the package. They're made by a small outfit in BC and I'm pretty sure can only be found in western Canada and the Pacific Northwest of the US.
PS: Mountain burgers get an A from CCs computer - it seems they have lots of vitamins, just none added.

I got into veggie burgers for a while. I still really like them. But be careful of the hiden sodium. I have not tried many different types, but the Morning star brand has alot of salt in it. Thats the problem with processed foods. ~ Lost Artist
