News Media's coverage of Michael Jackson is driving me bonkers ::RANT::
The incessant media coverage of Michael Jackson is ridiculous. He has been dead for 2 weeks now. Get over it. Is it sad? Sure. But, there are more important stories in the world to concentrate on then Michael Jackson. Seriously. This is just as bad, if not worse then the Anna Nicole Smith coverage a few years back.
Furthermore, I do not understand why people are actively mourning for Michael Jackson. I remember hearing the announcement that Michael Jackson had died and thinking, “oh. That’s a shame.” But, that’s pretty much it. I don’t get the crying, wearing the MJ glove, or the memorial service, which looks to be one big exploitation of the guy. I mean, sure MJ could dance up a storm and had a bunch of great songs, but at the end of the day he was one seriously messed up guy that most people didn’t even know.
The whole thing is just weird and overall creepy.
agreed!!!
Plus I hate how it kicked Farrah Fawcett's death to the curb. I loved her!
Totally agree!! How about putting as much effort into mourning the 8 US/3 Cdn soldiers who died over the past couple of days?? Don't even get me started on the what this whole thing will cost the city of Los Angeles. He was a great entertainer yes but this is beyond ridiculous.
Who?
He really made an impact on a lot of people though. While I agree with what you're saying I think people are entitled to mourn for him if they wish. His death has me shaken up because I just really didn't expect it. To me, he always seemed like someone that would always be around.
The real tragedy in all this media coverage is that I really don't think he would have wanted it. He was always such a private person. Oh well, RIP Michael, Farrah and Billy Mays!
The lead in to Good Morning America this morning when something like this:
"Today on GMA we'll have up to the minute coverage of the memorial service, and more never before seen home videos from inside Neverland, bla bla ble... Then we'll catch up with President Obama on his historic trip to russia and get his take on Michael Jackson mania"
I just about threw my coffee mug through the TV.
agreed. yeah its a sad thing when someone dies but seriously? wasnt he a child molester?
enough is enough. people die. move on.

I don't understand how people can be "shaken up" by the death of someone they didn't know.
There are more important things going on in the world that warrant news coverage than a celeb's death. That's why I watch Al Jazeera English. This b.s. isn't on their news coverage.
Agreed. The whole thing is ridiculous. People need to get over it.

Just goes to show you what kind of society we live in. A pop icon is dead. Yes, it's sad. But most of the people mourning his death right now didn't really even care where he'd been for the last 5 years or so anyway. You are right, ali. Alot of other news I'd rather see has been overshadowed by this memorial circus.
There is already a detailed, practically minute by minute account of the memorial event. This is from one news article:
Outside the Staples Center, Claudia Hernandez, 29, said she loved Jackson's music as a girl growing up in Mexico. Now a day-care teaching assistant in Los Angeles, Hernandez said she cried watching TV coverage of his death.
"I'm trying to hold in my emotions," said Hernandez, wearing a wristband to allow her admittance to the service and holding a framed photograph of Jackson. "I know right now he's teaching the angels to dance."
WHAT?? Are you kidding, me? This is not normal. It would be one thing if this were a close relative, but for someone you don't even know is beyond weird. Were do they find these people? ::bangs head against desk::
I think it's morbid how the media is sensationalizing this...and the 'fans' are just as bad. He hasn't been in the public eye (for his music) in a long, long time.
Scanning the radio stations on my home from school I thought I heard Queen Latifah speaking, so I stopped. It sounded like she was talking about Jesus, and then I realized she was talking about MJ! I guess it was the memorial service. Just weird.
There was a clip of a "mourner" finding out that he had won tickets to go to the memorial service. Yeah, he looked real broken up...
I wish they'd stop showing the home movies of his kids - they are so clearly prompted as they profess their love for him, it makes me kinda ill.

who needs to be able to dance when you have wings??? Wings are so automatic win!
**hands crazineko some advil**
Hope your head feels better!! hahaha
Wings are definitely better than feet.
Lets see...
You can turn the tv off. The radio off. Not visit websites that are covering the memorial. Or not create a post doing the same thing you are ranting about.
It would be nice if they would let him rest in peace...it would also be nice if I could have some chilli cheese fries right now. Neither thing is gonna happen. It is society...unfortunately.
The same hoopla was done for Elvis...we just didn't have the technology/media outlets we have now.

Hey now! None of that, missy. Eat some cheese fries (that does sound yummy) and let me have my rant. It is in my best interest to rant. Either I rant online, or I kill my boss for listening to the best of Michael Jackson on her computer...she doesn't bring headphones. Enough said, I think.
