For the next time you're in danger of a binge...
Well, my 'best friend' is coming to visit, and you know what that means... cravings!!
I have a couple of fun-sized M&M packets stashed away for 'treat nights', but I wasn't sure my hormones would let me stop at just one tonight. I usually keep some bags of frozen veggies around for when I haven't gotten around to going shopping, and when the sun went down and my food monster started waking up, I decided to chow down on a nice big bowl of broccoli (I loooooove broccoli :D) to fill myself up.
But rummaging through my freezer, I found something that was far more appealing to my sweet tooth - frozen blueberries!
I only let them thaw for about 40 minutes so they were still mostly frozen when I ate them... and it was superb! They were frozen just enough so that they had a creamy sort of texture... it was just like eating a bowl of ice cream! A 300g bowl of delicious nutritious superfruit ice cream! Yep, I ate the whole box, but it was only 150 calories... it brought me right up to my target for the day, and more importantly, filled me up and satisfied my sugar desire. Yay!
This is definitely my new backup plan for when I need something sweet!
I swear by frozen fruit: I have about 5 different combos stashed away in the freezer at the moment.
If you ever want something a bit "heavier" in the stomach I really recommend mixing the fruit with natural low-fat yoghurt, bran flakes and a drizzle of a natural sweetener. Nommy!
im not too keen on broccoli but i love blueberries
thanks for the tip ![]()
I wished I would have know this before I found my husband's stash of peanut butter cups last night. thanks for sharing the info I'm puttig it on the grocery list right now!
Frozen raspberries have a similar effect on me!!! I always have a frozen peeled banana in the freezer for emergencies!!!
I made a very delicious banana cream pie (estimated @ 125 calories a serving). I used fat free/sugar free pudding, 2boxes were 50 calories. I used 1 packet of stevia, 2 teaspoons of vanilla bean imitation extract, fat free whipped cream, 1 tbsp 20 calories, 2 bananas, and 1 (100 calorie packet) of lorna dorne cookies.
It actually was delicious and great for a late night snack.
I love the frozen fruit. I've recently bought frozen rasberries and blueberries. It started because i got tired of buying fresh and then within a few days they all went bad. I like to have some low fat vanilla yogurt and frozen rasberries in the morning. So good and not too high on calories.
you know how I avoid binging? I EAT what I'm craving! Throughout the day I make healthy choices to "FUEL" my body, afterall, that's what cals are = fuel.
If I want a treat at the end of the day (yes...everyday), I have one. I think it's nonesense to give things completly up. I just figure them into my calorie "allowance" (which always shifts). I plan on eating those things after I lost weight and keep it off. I'm just learning how to eat differently and 15 pounds later, it's working.
That's great that you can do that, mperic81, but the core problem for bingers like us is that once you start with one taste of that food you're craving, 10 minutes later the entire package is gone. For me, that's peanut butter. I could want one spoonful for a little treat, and then before I know it, 1/4 of the jar is gone. Until I get that under control and lose the craving, PB is out of my house.
I also think fat free, sugar free jello is great. If you're having a bingy day, you can eat an entire box of jello for only 40 calories, and it's very filling. Some people might find that gross, but for the amount of calories you'd eat on one tiny package of M&Ms (250?) and still feel hungry, the cost/benefit is worth it.
I also love frozen grapes! But be careful, those little suckers add up fast. If you're lucky enough to get the really great varieties in season right now, they're the size of gumballs! You know that's not 3 calories per grape! :P
Something else I just discovered if you have a sweet AND salty tooth - Orville Redenbacher 100 calorie packs of kettle corn. I was really surprised at just HOW MUCH popcorn that is for only 100 calories! It's also fairly low in fat and sodium - I think 3% fat & 5% sodium per pack. Just be careful. Don't go for another pack when you're done! haha
