A nice butt and thigh burner...

Quote  |  Reply
Yesterday, the workout guy at my school's workout area me do a few sets of walking lunges with 15 pound weights. And oh my, after lunging across a 30 foot area about 8 times, my thighs were burning.

I woke up this morning with the tell-tale sensation of tight muscles. It's a good feeling though (minus when I try to sit down. My poor behind!). Just letting you guys know in case you wanted a nice, easy workout you could do at home. Weights are optional. :)

Cheers! Hope everyone's well.

Great idea... I hate lunges... But damn do they feel good (When you're done!) LOL

I never thought about walking lunges... very clever.
I don't like lunges but i will try them too.. Thanks.. Lynn
how do you do proper lunges?
Proper lunges. I hate explaining things like this because I'm scared I'll mess it up. But here goes. =P

Mainly, you want to stand straight up at first, hands at your sides. You'll take your right foot and step forward. Then bend (as if you were going to kneel on one leg) until your left knee aaalllllmooossstttt touches the ground. And keep your back straight.

I hope that helps. Maybe I can find pictures online... hmmm...
Hi
I found an animation of lunges cuz I wanted to know what they were too. It's here:

Quick note on lunges: MAKE SURE that your knee doesn't go over your toes--there should be a vertical line from your ankle to your knee when you do your lunge, otherwise they can have very adverse effects and cause knee problems. Otherwise, they're very very good for you ~_^
My dad told me a few weeks back to do lunges and taught me how...I haven't started yet, but maybe I'll do them tonight. I love to feel the burn!

By the way, I read your profile - definitely a House lover! It's my favorite show...last week's was so good. Had me on the edge of my seat as usual! I loved having two hours..they should do that every week to feed the addiction!
lunges are the best.  you can do backward ones, side ways ones, front ones and to an angle.  they all work the muscle differently.

to do them properly (front and back lunges) you knee should not come infront of your toes on the leg that is in front (if that makes any sense).  keep your knee at 90 degrees.  so Ankle and knee both at 90 degrees.  I try to think about it as if someone is pulling my pelvis to the floor straight down by a string.  And yes, back straight.

a great work out is to add arms to it with some light weights and just do shoulder presses over head.  kills two birds with one stone and tones all at the same time.  gets the heart going as well, which is great for buring cals :)

I loathe lunges but the work.

When I first started my knee were killing me, I made sure my knee never went ahead of my toes, but one thing that helped me lots was to really dig that heel into the floor while doing them, this seemed to put less stress on my knees.

Directional lunges are great but hard.
my trainer back in Chicago gave me some great lunge advice...when you step forward, think of sinking DOWN into it, keeping your torso straight up and down...instead of moving and leaning forward.  And when doing walking lunges (which I love!), when standing back up push through your heels...gets you right in the butt!

And like others have said, make sure your front knee doesn't travel in front of your toes, try to keep your lower leg straight up and down.

Happy lunging everybody!
ok dc, what are shoulder presses?
