Nike + and iPod Nano

Quote  |  Reply

Hey all,
I was looking into getting an iPod Nano and Nike+ receiver.  I already have the required sneakers and thought this would be beneficial.
Has anyone used this?  Is it accurate?

I have found the Nano for 179 at Amazon.com.  Is t here somewhere I can get a better price?

Also.... does this work with the iPod classic?

Thanks,

I don't know as far as pricing goes. However, to answer your question about whether it works with iPod classic, no. I have the shoes too and was wanting to use my iPod touch with it but you'll have to get a wristband adapter rather than use it directly like you would with the Nano. However, the wristband is like $50 and it would definitely be cheaper than buying a whole new iPod.

Well my iPod is about to go...  I'm at the point where it takes 1 or 2 minutes to go to the next song.  It's like 4/5 years old.

I was going to get a Nano or an iPod Classic (80gb).

Heya,

I got my Nano for my birthday. After i announced to a few of my friends that i wanted to start jogging they suggested Nike+.

Its not spot on accurate but it is good! You get little charts for each run to see your runs. Also its good to track progress! Ive gone from walking 2 miles to running nearly 4 and it looks amazing hehe.

I have found its a great motivator. I dont know if i would have splashed out on getting an ipod specifically for it.

I have the sport kit also and I love it. I used the Nike shoes for a year, but decided to finally switch to some better running shoes (Asics). I purchased one of those little pocket things to put the sensor in and it is still very accurate. Like Spirtey said, it's not spot on, but it's pretty darn accurate. You can also sync your sensor to the nike+ website and track all your miles and progress and such. I have about 120 miles to go until I reach 1000! :o)

Get the nano.  It has flash memory so it isn't prone to skipping the way the mini hard drives are in the classic and video.  Running with those can make them skip and freeze.

I love my Nike + ipod! I know that it's not completely accurate, but I feel it's close enough. Also, I usually take the calories burned estimate as a high estimate. Probably my favorite part is that I can run outside and still get an idea of how far I ran, my pace and the calories burned. Plus, when you run faster or longer than you had previously, you get a short little message congratulating you!

The Nike + website also is awesome. It has a bunch of different tools. You can track your runs, set goals, join teams, etc. My favorite new thing on the site is that you can create a mini-person and then as you run more, the mini becomes more active in its activities. I think it's cute and motivational.

Basically, I'm a huge fan! I would definitely recommend it. The only caution I would say is that when the sensor is on, any movement runs down the batteries. That means that if you are traveling somewhere, you should shut the sensor off or it will be running the entire time which can cause the battery die. (This is just something that I wish someone had told me before because I killed my battery very quickly this way.)

I totally love mine... it's really great- fairly accurate- great website... am so addicted to it:-)

I recently got one and couldnt seem to get it to work. It just kept telling me to walk around to find the sensor. So I went back and got a new one and still can't get it to work.

Has anyone else had this problem? I think I've had the thing sitting on my dresser so long I can't take it back :/

Did you activate the sensor? You have to hold the button down on the back of the sensor for like 3 seconds I think. This turns the sensor on.

You don't even need the shoes - and they're unlikely to be a perfect model for your feet anyway. I cut a small slit in the tongue of my left shoe, slid the little sensor in and sewed it up again - works a treat.

ccrun, Yea I activated the sensor but still wasnt working? Idk if somethings wrong with my ipod or what?

Try going to the apple website and then finding the Nike + section. There is a troubleshooting section and one of the options is what to do if it can't find your sensor. There are a bunch of different reasons for the problem. I actually went on vacation so I turned my sensor off to travel, then I couldn't get it to turn back on. I looked on the site and tried a couple of the things and now my sensor is fine again.

can it be any generation nano? cuz i have the 1st gen, and i dont want to buy another jus for the nike +

I'm pretty sure that you can use any nano. In fact, I think mine is first generation, although I can't guarantee that. I would check out the apple website and look for more information on the Nike +

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the nike+.  I am training for a marathon and it totally holds me accountable for following my training program that I set up on the website.  Also, I find Ive started running faster because I am aware of my pace, and then when you sync it you can see where your ups and downs are with your run.  Def get it!

My sister worked at Nike for a few years (so maybe she's biased lol), but she LOVED the Nike+.  She used to set up goals, like running 100 miles, and then it would add up how much she ran each day, so she could make her goal in a month or something like that.  Yeah, she's the athletic one in the family....haha
