nike- i pod gadget
hi all,
i've just been recommended the nike- i pod gadget which will log your running, use existing playlists, monitor distance/ calories etc. and was wondering if anyone has this, and how they are getting on with it??

I have been using it since May. It is fairly accurate for what it is. It is not as accurate as a Garmin. It does track distance, pace and calories burned. The Ipod will give you spoken information. I really like it a lot. You do need to calibrate it when you start using it for better accuracy.
I use it on all my runs, and I've had one for a couple months. However, I've started using a Nike Sportband instead of the iPod version. I've been in a few races that don't allow headphones, and in group runs where it seems anti-social to be listening to music. So I've gotten used to just using the Sportband instead.
Same basic idea, but it's a small wristband type device that you can connect to your computer. The data still gets uploaded to the NikePlus website. It's somewhat easier to calibrate (for me, anyway), in that the software for it allows you to go back to your last run and say how long it actually was, rather than you having to say in advance how far you're going to run (on the iPod).
And yeah, it's not as accurate as the Garmin units. Since it's a pedometer based unit, it depends on how consistent your stride is. So if you do lots of hills, or sprints/walks, it will be off. However, this unit can be used on indoor tracks and treadmills, which the GPS units can't do, unless you get the foot pod for them too. And it's a fraction of the cost of the GPS units, although they typically offer a HRM as well.
In the end, I think I'll end up upgrading to a GPS unit at Christmas. Actually, if I'm good, Santa will bring me one. :)

I really like my nike+ipod. Lance Armstrong pops up every once in a while to say "way to go!"
