Nintendo Wii (sorry if this has been asked before)
I have a Nintendo Wii and after being advised yesterday to up my activity level to help me burn calories as I am short and having a hard time losing, I thought I'd give it a go.
I had a go of each of the Wii Sports except the boxing (didnt feel up to that lol) - so how do I register that exercise on here?
Anyone have any idea of how many calories I might have burnt? I'd just like to monitor my progress so I can see what works and what needs increasing in the future.
Thanks x
It would actually be considered circuit training in a way. So if you cant figure out the exact game and such on the site use this.

Thank you - I'm not sure it was that rigorous LOL but I added it anyway
Thanks again ![]()
Depends very much what you do. For example, you could bowl sitting down, just moving your arm, or standing but standing still or, like me, you might do the whole bowling run-up. See my post in the following thread for some ideas on numbers to use:
Thanks for that - in that case maybe I did burn that many calories - I got sweaty lol
Can't play baseball to save my life though LOL
If you get a heart rate monitor most indicate calories burned. They are a use ful tool.
Deff do the boxing. That burns the most calories. I sweat soo much with that game. If you get bored with the sports game get EA active. That one is great for light strength training.
OOh, I haven't had a chance to try the EA Active game, but I do have My Fitness Coach and I like it a lot.
It's maybe not as much fun as the Wii Sports games, but it is more fun than a DVD. Plus it keeps you moving just without as many breaks. It's also not too expensive and doesn't use the balance board.
One thing I would not recomment getting is the Jillian Michael's game.
Would anyone recommend the Wii Fit? Is it worth it?
It is a lot of fun. I played it almost every day for several weeks. It helps with balance and gets you moving. Some of the stuff like the hula-hoop and boxing can definitely get you sweating and get your heart rate up.
But honestly it got boring to me. And some of the game type things were short and the breaks between exercises or games took so long that it got frustrating for me. It felt like I was just starting to get my heart rate up and then I would have to take the time to start another exercise.
I have the Wii Fit (good for stretching and core exercises), Gold's Cardio Gym(good for cardio, but gets boring), Jillian Michael's (terrible Avtar response...wouldn't recommend this one.) Wii Active (by far my favorite, gives a good cardio workout and is interval training...lots of exercises so you don't get bored.)
You could always get a heart rate monitor device (like a watch).. that's the most effective way to record your calories burned!
Yeah I have to say a good investment. I also bought the dance mat for it too. It has a calorie burner on the game so you can see what your burning - average about 100cal every 15 min.
Advice to anyone is be very open minded with regards games. What i mean is imagine a 32yr old 160lb doing cheer leading lol, dancing on the dance mat, playing high school musical dances & singing...... Great fun!
Going off topic - my latest toy - Carol Vordermans Active Health for the Nintendo DS. 100% recommend ! fantastic step counter & converter !
I have a Wii. I would recommend the Fit more if you could string up the exercises. I don't like having to grab the remote between each session. The Miis and tracking are fun.
What I love the most is Dance Dance Revolution. I don't use it as much as I would like because I'm usually beat at the end of the day, but when I do play, I love it. You can hold the remote and nunchuk as part of the game, or if you don't want to, you can just tap the dance pad to navigate.
I only recently stopped using the beginner level.
But what a riot!
Since I do karate in the evenings, I was looking forward to the boxing. And it really is a good workout, but I found out that you can just flick the remote and nunchuck with your wrist and do even better at the game. Here I was doing full punches, crosses and hooks and wondering why I wasn't doing better. If you do a full punch but don't turn the remote, it doesn't register. Still, our whole family loves the bowling and tennis. (And I also like the balance games on the fit, like the one where you tilt a platform to roll marbles into a hole.)

I agree with you 100% I'm a 45 year old grandmother of 4 and 160 pounds. I have enjoyed all of the games I have tried, but currently I am in love with the My Fitness Coach. I haven't had a chance to try the EA Active, but I figure as long as I'm enjoying the one(s) I currently have, why switch. I may still get it though!
Plus I do weight training (NROL currently) 2-3 times per week, so the Wii is just a way for me to get my cardio in rather than getting on the treadmill.
There will be a new wii fit coming out soon. I think its call Wii Fit Plus or something. I saw it a while ago when I was looking at the new mario game coming out. Dance Dance Revolution is fantastic for cardio I think a new one for that is coming out too soon.
I want to give that Carol Voderman Active Health thing for the DS a go too!
Who else has it?
Will I lose weight if I eat the same food over and over?
You can lose weight despite eating the same food day-after-day as long as you eat fewer calories than you burn. In fact, eating the... Read more
