has anyone tried these noodles?? i want to try them immediately! only 20 cals per serving! crazy!

edit: last night i made eggplant curry and ate it over these noodles. they were good! they don't taste like anything, and they're a bit chewy, but i was happy with them in place of the normal rice noodles.

I think they are the most disgusting thing on this earth. Hungrygirl website has a bunch fo recipes for them, of which I tried 2 and almost barfed right there. But apprently some people like them... I just don't know how.

that is a sad, sad story! i hope i have better luck!

I can't stand them.  I ordered a case online and tried them, gave them away and found out later that my local Japenese market carries them individually.

I think they're allright. I totally get why someone who likes pasta wouldn't like them. I've never been a pasta fan, but I like these guys with cheese sauce. They're not one of my regular staples, but I get them when I want some mac n cheese.

Ugh those things are rough, I searched for them for months then found them and was seriously disappointed....hope you like them can't say I did

I love them...they're great with marinara sauce on them.  Just make sure you rinse them and dry them really well.

There are about a million posts on this topic. Just search for "tofu shirataki" in the forum search.

yeah, I have to say I was so excited to try them myself and ended up paying exorbitant shipping fees to get them and then realized the local Whole Foods market carries them. I tried them with a vegetable primavera type sauce. I followed H.Girls rec's and rinsed and dried them well first and tossed them in the pan with the sauted veges and sauce. They tasted ok (I mean they were tolerable) with my very tasty sauce. The second time I tried them i sort of got sick of them after a couple of bites and they gave me stomach cramps.  They don't have the consistency of semolina pasta but more like a chewy egg noodle. I haven't tried it yet, but I think they would be better in soups, almost like a soba noodle of sorts. I think definately worth trying several different ways just because they are such a great calorie saver.

I LOVE these! They will taste nasty if you don't follow the instructions, though. You need to rinse them off very, very thoroughly before cooking them. An dthen you;re golden! Safeway sells them here in California, in the cold tofu / fake meat section. And they're only a dollar a bag!

They aren't like pasta, but I really like them anyway.  I had them today for lunch in fact...with diced tomatoes and a cut-up veggie sausage.  Yum.

I also like them with "butter" and sauteed mushrooms, or with stir fry sauce and veggies...They are okay with marinara, and some day I will try them with alfredo...  Like the previous poster said, rinse well, and don't expect them to be like spaghetti.

I love them, but don't expect anything like spaghetti, I think you should treat them for what they are....asian, so they make wonderfull asian dishes, like teriaky style or with a good curry and indeed, make sure to rinse them thoroughly before you use them! Then they are really good to my opinion! And indeed, most you can find them in asian stores or whole foods, in the chilled section.

Well there not as good as noodles by far...

But for 20 calories a serving THERE AMAZING! I love them and add them to my stir fried veggies with a little soy sauce and i have a HUGE bowl of noodles and veggies for less than 100 calories. You just really have to rinse and dry them well.Smile

I've wanted to try these things for the past two years or so, but I can never find them. :( We don't have any Trader Joes or Whole Foods around us. I've looked in just about every grocery store close by though to no avail. Kind of sucks. :( I really don't like ordering food online...It's just..weird. Plus you always have to pay extra for S&H so that always sucks.

Think they would be good in pad thai? That's what I wa thinking would work well with them?  I've yet to try them but, I think I will get a bag and then rinse very well and see how they work out? shesh 20 calories?!  SurprisedYou can't even get that low calorie when replacing your pasta with spaghetti squash!

However, I won't buy a case of them. Sorry to ladys who spent too much and didn't like them.

They're OKAY, but they'll never satisfy a craving the way a whole-grain pasta would, IMO.

And for the record, sealion, I don't care much for hungrygirl either.

OMG-these are a staple in my refrigerator! I use them for SO many things (literally have them 4 or 5 nights a week for dinner!):

-pad thai

-fettucine alfredo

-good old spaghetti

-kugel

-teriyaki stir fry

-soup

the possibilities are endless, I just had a bowl with homemade vodka sauce, mushrooms, and artichoke....yum yum yum!

As a few other posters have said, just don't expect them to be pasta and rinse well.

A very versatile food for healthy and low cal eating!

safeway sells them for quite cheap, as you may noticed it would probably be best if you try them yourself

personally i like them a lot

safeway has a sale on them quite often where they cost only $1

I think I will have to invest in a small pack of these. Good thing there is a asian food mart right in my town and its a big one, we used to have 2 of them but the one went out of business over the summer. I will try these with my special spicy noodle sauce that I make. Note to self, wash very well. Exactly what do these taste like? Some one said about it was a texture of egg noodle and I like egg noodles how bout the taste?

gem86: I washed mine like 10x to make sure the smell was gone :]. And since i washed, boiled, and dryed them really well they tasted like nothing to me. There was no nasty taste, but it didnt really tast like a noodle. I really dont think they have a strong taste, but they taste like whatever sauce/recipe you use them in.

I like them. I rinse them really well and use them with pasta sauce, tuna and noodles and so on. Different texture but great if you want to eat pasta without all of the calories.
