I was anorexic as a young teen and since recovering I can't stop binging. I am more aware of it now and trying to stop, I am finding it hard. Is this common or normal?
Answer
Eating disordered thoughts and behaviors often overlap diagnostic categories. All of the EDs involve unhealthy eating patterns that build to a point where the person feels out of control. Emotions and stress trigger eating disorders, which are misguided attempts to cope. Eating disorders may be accompanied by depression, which often responds well to medication. Dieting may be a factor in binging. Under-eating, poor nutrition, skipping meals during the day, and strange eating patterns can trigger a binge. Vow to eat to your maintenance calorie requirements with at least three meals a day to try to top the binging and see a mental health therapist if the problem persists.
