is this normal?

Quote  |  Reply

Do I get a little bloated tummy because I'm malnourished? I mean, I eat, but I haven't eaten properly, like a balanced meal, in ages.

I normally skip breakfast and lunch, and nibble on peanut butter, dried fruit or sun dried tomatoes later on. Mostly dried fruit though.

I know I'm not getting enough nutrients, but I get a funny bloated stomach (not windy, just sticks out. It's not flab either) I'm a recovering anorexic, and I weigh 98lbs at 5'2", from 84lbs. Is this normal? Will it go? Please help meeee! I get so self concsious about it! Feel like I look 4 months pregnant!

you know ur intake is far from normal. u need to have a breakfast lunch n dinner. im not too sure ul recieve any advice on this one. you know uv to get up to 1200 cals.

u cant call urself recovering when ur eating patterns are like that.

i think read the eating disorder advice post

When I wasn't eating my stomache would bloat severly. I think it's acid and gas build up because there is nothing in it. The only resolution is to eat. Now I eat around 1000-1200 cals a day my stomache is always flat, even after eating.

thanks, both of you!

Fidget - I've gotten to that point where I've realised I've put on weight and now I just want to stop =[ =[

Kat - Thatnks for the advice! I'll try eating a bit more! It's a bit overwhelming trying to change my mindset though =[

DEMURE:

I am right there with you--
going through a rough time right now-----------------

counterintuitive though it may be, eat more calories. malnourishment can easily cause a bloated stomach - especially if every other part of your body is like a stick.

if that doesn't help, make sure you are eating enough fiber. it moves things along and reduces bloating in the longer term. when you first increase your fiber intake, you might still have it, but soon your body will get used to it, and it will go away.

if you are already eating enough fiber and are allowed exercise as part of your recovery, google the stomach vacuum exercise. worked for me.

This was when I was 16.  But at age 15 I lost my brain and ate only 300 calories a day at most for 3 months, Thought I was going to die even I wasnt that light and ate.  When I ate I remember this day wooow.  My stomache, like a oval and weird pains too.  But Now im 18...I dont have that anymore, Proof that it goes away.

Good Luck, I bet your situation is more severe than mine was so I cant compare, But good luck!  =)

Take this for what it is worth...

I worked for an athletic club that did body fat for Nicky Taylor (her agent sent her) when she was just getting started in the modeling world. Alot of guys (trainers included) could not stop gawking. I mean, afterall she is a beautiful girl. Her results - she fell into the obese category.  Alot of the staff was shocked. She had barely any lean body mass... this is not what anyone should aspire to be. Thin does not equal healthy. A healthy, strong body (both inside and out) is VERY SEXY. Lean muscle wins at any age.

Just my .02 Cool

Ever seen TV pictures of little African children in refugee camps.... ?  Eyes all sunken in but their poor little empty bellies all bloated up like beach balls?  That's what starvation does to someone.

Get into the habit of eating regular small meals and snacks and build up from there.  That's the only way you'll recover, gain weight and lose the bloat at the same time.
