I have a real problem with portion size and think that this is one of my many downfalls. The problem is i am just not sure what is "normal" eating anymore. For example for dinner this evening i ate two tortillas filled with salad and a two tablespoons of mince meat. Is this normal or should i have just eaten one.
What would you do? One tortilla or two?????
thanks,
jane
Very subjective quandary. I guess my answer would hinge on what type of tortilla it was and how it fit into my calorie range for the day. Nothing wrong with eating two tortillas as long as it fits in with the plan.
it was in range and i was hoping someone would say that but i still feel a bit greedy!!
I personally always eat 2, if not 3. (I am at a healthy weight - 5'2.5"- 110).
Let's say when I eat fajitas at the house, I usually take one tortilla, put a lot of stuff in it and then eat some meat with veggies on the side... that way, the calories don't add too much.... Considering I eat around 1400 calories a day (I'm 5'1" and 125) and that my regular breakfast is around 400 calories, I try to have my 2 other meals at around 500 calories each, so 2 tortillas would not work....
Well there are many factors to determine the degree of what you call "normal" portion size. You diet, what did you have to eat before and after. Your health, if you are fit or not. And of course the tortilla, was it large small, flour, wheat, low carb, low cal, etc.
By normal I think you are trying to say, did you over-indulge by taking two as opposed to one? If so then you have to account for the factors I mentioned above. Assuming your fit, the tortillas were average size, flour, average cals (150/per tortilla) then I think it would be "normal" to have two, if thats what your stomach asked for...
if you didn't feel overly stuffed, and if both tortillas fit in your calorie range for the day, and if you didn't feel like you couldn't stop eating even if you wanted to, i would say two tortillas are fine :)
yeah, i agree that this is an extremely subjective question depending on your nutritional needs for that day, however if you're asking what i would have done ... i just would have waited before i had the second. maybe had a cup of tea or something just to test my impulses and if i still felt like i need it or should have or had that wonderful sensation of blood sugar dropping then i'd deff go back for another, or some soy ice cream... :D
