I generally consusume around 1000 cals a day but am recommended to consume up to 1400. The thing is if i eat over 1000 i put on weight, seem to maintain at 1000 and initially i would lose if i either ate less calories or added exercise (which is my preference).
The problem is now, if i dont exercise every day but maintan an intake of 1000 cals i put on weight! what the hell is going on? how do i continue to loose weight if i cant exercise every day? its just not practical to keep this up and my schedule is about to get a lot more hectic and i just wont have time. I have worked so hard and dont want to see my weight start to rise again.
would really appreciate some help about now
Up your calories and continue your exercising. Your weight will go up at first but then it'll drop and you'll continue to lose weight.
sounds to me like your body is in presevation mode because your not eating enough.
It's scarey as hell but what you need to do is move yourself away from this unhealthy amount your eating and eat the correct amount of food. (at least 1,200 maybe more but i can't tell you that as i don't know your stats)
You may watch you wieght rise for a short time as your body get's used to the new amount but after a while once it realises whats gonig on it will level off as you metabalism returns to a normal and healthy level
Once you've fixed your metabalism and you've let your body recove from the starvation its currently experiencing you can then think about losing the gained wieght in a healthy manner.
If you continue the way you are your gonig to need to keep dropping your caloires just to maintainand its a long slippery slope and yes it is possible to be fat on as little as 500-700 caloires a day because you metabalism gets that messed up.
right now you metabalism is just alittle bit screwwed up and tbh i doubt very much you've done yourself any real harm but you really need to think logically and rationally ...
work out what is a healthy amount to eat (and lose wieght) based on your height, wiehgt and level of exercise ... and force yourself to eat at least that much for a month or so regardless of what the scales say (persoanlly i wouln't even get on them for a month or so) and eventualy you'll see them going down again but this time in a healthy matter and i bet you'll feel better for it because your body will have more energy and feel better.

Everything says to eat a minimum of 1200 calories or your body goes into starvation mode, therefore making your body hold onto every calorie it gets not knowing when it's going to get food again, therefore causing you to gain weight.
Up your calories and continue your exercising. Your weight will go up at first but then it'll drop and you'll continue to lose weight.
Couldn't have put it better myself.
To the OP, you NEED to eat more. 1200 calories is an absolute minimum for normal bodily functions.
Thanks for all the advice, I figured I must be doing something wrong but couldnt work out where! Will definately up the calorie intake even if it will mean i put on at first. Scary as it may be, from what you have said i should lose more and be healthier in the long run so it sounds good to me.
Thanks
Hi, new here. Can someone please refer me to any scientific studies/reports concluding that 1200 calories a day is the minimum for every adult to prevent going into "starvation mode"? Thanks.
