Normally I'd love some Limbo ~ life after miscarriage

Quote  |  Reply

I'm almost 5 weeks post D&C (12/12/08), which was a few days before I would have been 12 weeks.  I gained about 17 pounds from my non-pregnant weight and have just really started making a dent the other way.  I am starting to feel GREAT but I'm in well, Limbo.

My husband and I are "actively trying" for a baby.  Our miscarriage was just a fluke, chromosomes didn't like eachother or whatever but still the "what if's" are there.  I have some ground to wonder, maybe.  I am recovering from an untreated eating disorder, rock bottom being June 2007.  Last year my pituitary gland was confused, leaving me without a period for 5 months.  This was at about a 35-40# lower weight, all be said.

I'm not doing nearly the amount now that I was then, I'm just too old, happily so.  I have noticed that I am in "training mode" which is a good/bad thing.

I am 5'8" about 155 pounds (was 138 ish, ah well).  I cardio (HIIT) 6 days for 20 minutes.  I cardio for weight loss (sustained) 6 days for 45 minutes.  I strength train 2 days for 45-60 minutes.  I teach yoga 4 hours a week as well as do my own yoga thing sporadically.

Part II: I eat.  I haven't glanced my diet since pregnancy.  But I eat healthfully, it's mostly hunger.  Both being pregnant and training make me hungry.  I'm a recovering vegan with vegetarian tendencies who likes fish and turkey ;P  To be honest, I've only been semi tracking but I'm probably taking in like - oh crap 2700 a day, yeah I know.

My point - so I want a baby ASAP and I want to stay fit and healthy.  That's about it.  What do you think?

estrogen likes fat to a point, you are still a healthy bmi, exercise less, eat well (lots of folic acid, spinach, etc)... and if you arent pregnant again soon (how old are you?) start talking to your dr about tests.  they talk about 6 mths over 35, i think thats crap.

Have you been doing ovulation kits?  Are you tracking cervical mucus, temps, any of it?  When is the last time you had all your functions checked out (pituitary, adrenal, thyroid...)?

Good luck!

Thanks for the insight!  I'm 27.  I did OPKs the first go round, debating it this time.  I ovulated on day 21 when I got pregnant, if I read the test correctly.  Weird.

I started my period 48 hours ago, first one since 09/21.  I'm going to check CM and CP daily.  I'm also going to do Mucinex this time.

I had a full workup at my first prenatal visit in early Nov. 2008, all good in the hood.

Thanks again!

CM and CP are good indicators, use the opks to give you a more exact "up to the minute" report rather than a historical prospective... doing temps will help too to track the cycles.  I am annovulatory so.... all they tell me is um no go.

Did you have any progesterone done with your first preg?  You may want to request it this time even if they tell you no (did you have a chromosome analysis done on your baby?)

The whole getting pregnant thing blows when your body just seems like it should cooperate but it wont.  Dont buy into the whole "you are young" ****.  You are missing periods and have had other hormonal issues-- find a dr that is willing to track you, do day 3 bloods, do ultrasounds, pay attn to your hormones.  Expensive, yes.  Will your insurance cover it?  If it coded infertility and you are in most states, no.  Coded hormonal nos, yes.  Talk to the dr before you start.  Good luck!

also, any blood work they did a prenatal appt is non useful for getting pregnant and would not have tested for what you need--- thryroid, prolactin, estrogen, testosterone, p-170h, etc.

I think the best thing to do would be to relax abit. It has only been a short while, so give your bod a little lazy day or two. I'd go get some tasty treats and soak in a tub at least 3 times a week, maybe have a massage and a mani/pedi

Ooh, maybe get a couple massage with the hubby? I say spoil and papmer yourselves and your relationship for a few more weeks, then start trying again. If it was me, at least.

Yea, thought I would have to start marking sticks again. Glee!!

I am a victim, er - subscriber of HMO, which is a true joy.  I didn't have any testing done post D&C.  After learning of the lack of fetal heartbeat at my first OB, I decided I needed a second opinion.  I found a really great *honest* OB in the process.  He is 100% "there" when you talk to him, makes his recommendations, asks if you have any questions but says "I'll do whatever you want" - within reason of course.  I guess I could have demanded tests, but I didn't.

Can you give me a quick health lesson - progestrone is produced after ovulation right?  I have never really had it tested throughout my cycle.  1 yr ago I had it tested in conjunction with other hormonal tests and it was "normal".  However, the period before I conceived my luteal phase was 5 days.

Relax?  Pamper?  Okay!!!  I'll take that as an order :)
