I just noticed something really....really.....really strange.

Ok, so for the past 2 months i've had 2 belly-aching binges, and about 5 or 6 days where i shoved in chocolate or alcohol on no end. Most of these were "Whats the point, im not even losing anyway" binges.

Last monday, my last chocolate binge. (I ate 6 hersheys white chocolate bars=1320 calories of yummy goodness, oh, and i ate the same amount on halloween, topped with alcohol. Sealed)

On tuesday i slapped myself in the face and got back on plan without deviations.

So on wednesday i weighed myself for weigh-in, only to witness the horrid results of my carelessness for the past month.

188.2

I WAS HAPPY.

You wanna know why? First of all, the scale had MOVED FROM 185. ...Maybe not in the right direction, but at least i know im not doomed at 185 forever.

But most importantly, it was TTOM. I usually gain 3-4 lbs then.

5 days later, the water weight is gone, and guess where im at.

ONE EIGHTY FREAKIN FIVE.

So, i didnt gain any weight due to my binges? What the h*ll? What do i have, a super metabolism? I consumed like 6000 calories over MAINTENANCE.

Someone...please..Whats wrong with me? I didnt even work out during these times. Maybe i lost muscle. Frown I'm doomed at 185Cry

Edit: Err, i forgot those 4 days i ate 3500 cals in addition to these other binge days. LOL

Still, maybe im one of those lucky people who can eat like a horse and gain nothing, oh wait...then i wouldnt be here in the first placeSealed

You're not sweetie. It just feels that way. I do that too (just not with chocolate, ick!). I'll eat a whole pizza, drink soda, just pig out all day, sometimes I'll do it for 3-4 days when I'm frustrated. But I won't gain any weight. I'll stay at 153 for weeks. Now I'm almost down to 151, and I'm not going up, no matter what! Just give it patience. Try your hardest, work your hardest to not binge, and maybe after a week or so, you'll see it fall off. You'll get there hon.

Here's what I think: Allow yourself chocolate every day. Abstaining from it is elevating it's reward value, making you binge. If you allow yourself some every day, accounting for it calorie-wise, you may find you won't crave it as much.

You should eat the way you would to maintain once you hit your goal weight. Would you deny yourself chocolate then?

What we eat over 1 or 2 days is going to have little to no effect overall.
Why your stuck at 185 has probably a lot to do with under estimating what you eat and over estimating how much you actually move and exercise. Get a better plan, one that's manageable and execute it properly.

Actually, I've heard that it can help to eat more for a couple days when you plateau - dieting slows your metabolism a little, and eating more resets it back to a higher level.

Hey Miss Healthisinplease!  Boy, do I know where you are coming from.  My number was 165.  I could not move past that weight for 2-3 months and it drove me crazy and even made me have some days of true despair.  Why was I working so hard - eating right, exercising, etc.  Finally one day I got pissed (mad not drunk LOL!) and decided I had to try something before giving up.  I tried walking in addition to the exercise I was already doing.  Just a few blocks in my neighbourhood at first and then slowly increasing every few days.  Anyway the result was that I started losing 1 to 1.5 pounds each week. Now I'm down another 10 pounds and it took about 7-8 weeks.

Maybe more exercise wasn't what you wanted to hear but it sure made me feel better once I saw the scale finally drift away from that hated number, AND keep moving down.  You're not stuck permanently, no make worry and good luck!

I exercise 40 mins (around 400 cals) (cardio, either elliptical+treadmill or taebo/jillian michaels) every other day, and strength train 2x a week. Havnt strength trained in 2 weeks though.

The days i dont work out, im running up and down multiple flights of stairs and walking around the school, in addition to a total of 24 minutes of walking to and from the bus stop.

I eat 1800 on those days i dont work out. 2000 on days i do, and 1600 when all i do is sit on the computer all day (literally, usually sundays. lol)

I'm 5'5, 18 y/o, and 185. I assume i burn 2300 on a daily basis while being somewhat active. Does that sound ok? Its been going well so far, I'm having high hopes of being 184 this wednesday! LOL

What probably happened was you jump-started your metabolism after a period of stagnation.  I hate it when the scale doesn't move for weeks on end.  I usually end up going on a binge as well, and I always end up losing weight.

freaking plateau... you absolute b*tch. LOL!!!
who ever said that dieting/lifestyle change was for wussies. This stuff is hardcore mind training jedi knight stuff man! heehee

I feel the exact same. I have been the same weight for 4 months, down once with a whole kg! whoop, but then up again. Blegh.
During that time I have stopped working out, to eating less, to eating more, so gyming again. Nothing. I tell you nothing.
Yet I did notice that the inches went up and down depending what I was doing. I am doing the same as you pretty much and have similar stats:
I'm 5'4 and weigh 66kgs ~ 146 lbs, and am 24yrs.

So I would start measuring cause then at least you can see some changes from day to day, like yesterday waist, I was 76cm and today I was 75cm.

That motivated me that at least there was something happening within the body!
I find that the only thing to be extremely wary of is alcohol. That will stop your weight loss in its tracks immediately. Even if you eat less that day. Stay away form booze.
Until you reach your goal at least and then you can bring it in slightly.

(also assuming that 18 is the legal age in your country. It is in mine.)

I also say have 2 blocs of choc every day if you like it. It does make you crave it less.
I'm also not a choc lover but I am a savoury lover so when I binge its cheese!!! lol ;)

I'm writing exams at the current moment so unfort the exercise has gone out the window, as I am already just so tired mentally and with the small sleep that exercise would just nail me. But am back to gym on this fri (have a break til the next exam)- lets see if I can drop a kg!

btw LOVE the humour!!! heehee :D

ohhh how i hate bingeing.

I havnt binged in a while but it is the MAIN reason that I am still on the process of losing weight. I pretty much lose weight, maintain for a couple of months due to bingeing then lose again.

Seriously try sticking your calorie range and excersing for THREE weeks. Let me know the results then

Hahah, thank you =D I drink maybe like 3 or 4 times a year, and drinking is legal at 18 here yes, as long as the alcohol content is below 22%. lol. This plateau stuff is some SERIOUS JEDI NINJA ****. And it wont GTFO. D:

I do measure, not much difference, LOL.

....Frown

I've gladly stopped binging, only time will tell now. Yeah i went through a 12 day period where i didnt do much exercise, maybe 2 or 3 times.Sealed But i know that i lost some muscle, thats why i didnt *gain* weight, i just gained fat, and lost muscles. yikes. Im only still wishing to drop half a kg! My weight has crept down steadily from 86 to 84 the past week (water weight) lets see if it will still keep creeping =D If not, i need a doctor....lol

How does alcohol completely stall weightloss? I thought it only postponed it during the time you had alcohol in your system.Sealed

Im not letting this month be wasted as well! Im STICKING to my plan, THE WHOLE MONTH!
