November's Distance Challenge (aka 100 mile walk, run, etc...)
Hello all! After a month off I am back to offer this month's challenge (thanks for standing in foiegras!)
Hooray fall weather - it just makes the walking so much more enjoyable than say... August walks. Who would like to join in this month's walk/challenge and take advantage of the wonderful outdoors?
I will be aiming for 100 running/walking miles, but other distances/fitness goals are welcome.
Just so you know... 100 miles (160.93 km) = 3.33 miles (5.36 km) per day; 50 miles (80.47 km) = 1.67 miles (2.69 km) per day
I like to keep track of my walking through http://www.mapmyrun.com/ , but you can also use a pedometer as well (like foiegras's trusty Omron HJ-113).
Anyone can join, and I'll try to get your goals posted as soon as possible.
We also have walkers that like to track steps walked instead of mile goals. If you want to do this just let me know your personal goal and I'll add it to our list. If you are trying to hit 10,000 steps a day, then I'll put your goal at 300,000 steps for November.
For those of you that like an additional (mainly upper body) challenge, consider adding in some push-ups or planks or some workout time. I personally will be aiming for 100 push-ups this month (7 - 10 every other day). Here are some options for different difficulty levels:
Option 1: modified push-ups (either incline or wall). see description here
Option 2: planks (pick a time goal. 15 min = 60 second planks every other day). see description here
Option 3: regular push-up (good old floor push-ups). see description here
Option 4: more challenging push-up variation of your choosing (clap push-ups, etc.). see some ideas here
Option 5: resistance band workout - two from foiegras's workout last month are here the animations being helpful and here
Option 6: flexibility workout - try this site with its stick figures (scroll down for them) and this site is also very useful.
Swimmers also welcome.
How often should I post my steps or hours or minutes? As often as you like - some people post daily (even more than once!), others weekly and others in between (I usually update my numbers every two or three days).
We'll support and motivate each other to keep it up! Good luck everyone!

I'm aiming for 500,000 steps again... still deciding on other Goals. I'll check back later tonight! ![]()
Hi! I would love to aim for 100 miles in November!! :) I'd also like to do some sort of swimming goal, but I need to check the distance in my pool (I'm not sure if it's a 25m or 50m pool) and I'm a little nervous about that so I think I'll save that for December!
This is such a great idea!
Welcome back eedwards1!!!
I fell a little short last month but... I am ready for another challenge!
please put me down for
120 miles
150 (option 1) push-ups

YIPPEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ![]()
New and Old Members already!!!!!!! Gonna' be a GREAT month!!!!!!!!!! ![]()
I think I'm going to try to reach my half-way Weight Goal this month... I'm 163.25 on the last weigh in, and 156.5 is my Half-Goal, which I could make if I can keep my walking Goal this month. At that weight I'd planned on re-starting my weight lifting program, so I'll concentrate on the weight loss this month, first, then add some weight lifting Goals in December's Challenge. ![]()
Weight lifting in a real-but-simple way was profoundly effective for me in many ways-- I Loved it, it helped me immensely, I'm looking forward to feeling so good again-- but, it worked so well for me that it drove my scale crazy! So... I'm waiting till I feel I need it before I re-start it, lol!
Meanwhile, I need to work on my mid-section rather badly, lol, to look better at my current, much improved weight-- so I'll try to decide on some good mat-type exercise Goals to add to this months Step Goal. Definitely, I'll be adding some Air Stepping-- it works good, is tough for me, and adds more steps, too!!! ![]()

I'm really looking forward to a Wonderfully Successful Month this November-- Go, Challengers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ![]()

OK, I have an injury right now and a busy month ahead. SO I might be moe realistic to go for half of this amount ... But I'll make this my goal and we'll see if I can hit it...
November goal: 160 miles
11/1 3.5 miles
29 days left/156.5 miles left = 5.4 miles per day
Current streak (days in a row): 10 days 55.5 miles
Hey, this sounds like a great way to keep up fitness goals.
I'm a college student who walks everywhere but I don't have much of an idea of how much it comes out to. For the month of November, I want to set a goal, and hopefully exceed it, on the Elliptical/Treadmill/Running Outside instead and see how that turns out. It'll be nice to have a place to record what I already do in my workout and actually see how it comes together.
Goals:
100 miles
100 Modified Pushups (Option 1)
12 minutes of Planks (Option 2)
So..
November 1: 4.5 miles
Last month I tried 100 miles and made it but it was tough because I have so many honeydo things plus my training is very variable. This month I pledge to do 20,000 activity kcal instead. I'll post the calories and activities fo all to see.
I don't know when I may be able to start walking again, so for this month no distance and no step targets, just:
strength training - 300 mins
Yoga - 300 mins
PS. I have updated the October thread with final standings.
Hello everyone!
I'm currently at school, but I will be sure to update everyone's goal when I get home this evening.
Good to see you all,
Ellen
