NROL Hypertrophy I

Quote  |  Reply

Started today.  Did workout B instead of A because B had fewer exericses and I was pressed for time. It was different for me in that it wasn't a total body workout.  All legs this time.  Workout A is upper body.  I liked it.  My legs felt like jello when I left the gym.  I should have gone heavier but I was intimidated by 10 reps.  I didn't think I could go that heavy and finish 4 sets of 10.  The next B workout calls for 5 sets of 5 so I am curious to see how heavy I can go.  I think it will be a fun stage.  However, you have to do each workout 12 times so I know I will be sick of it by the end.  I substituted hypertropy for strength at the last minute because I lost some muscle tone from dieting down during Fat Loss II.  I am hoping to build some muscle and create more definition.  Unfortunately, only my arms look skinny.  Thunder thighs are still thunderous.  Go figure.

oh no! hope you are feeling okay!! yes- please rest up and get better soon!

i wish i could do a lifting session but i cant until this weekend is over (first flight!) as it gets my heartrate up and triggers my anxiety... im just doing light walks and baseball right now and keeping my eating in check.

I'm okay, just moving very slowly and wiped out from the meds.  I've been through this several times, so it's kind of "old-hat" to me.

I know this doesn't help much, but flying is fun!  I've been on lots of flights and never had a problem.  Including a couple of trips to Sydney Australia -- 14 hour flights aren't much fun, but they are interesting.

it does help. hearing things from everyone makes it better. whats great is yesterday and today i have been much less anxious. seems maybe i am just coming to terms with the idea of flying now.... we'll see what im like on the day.

whats great is that i now know what our plans are in Ottawa which are AWESOME and going to be so much fun, so im really looking forward to getting there. 1 hour in a plane (even in discomfort) will be totally worth it :D

sorry for hijacking this :D

Wooo!!!! A workout!  Did NROL Hyp I, B2 last night.  Only 5 exercises, but all lower body and 5x5, so I am really feeling after not being able to workout for 2 weeks.

The back is feeling better, and only a little sore today.

Good Job!

Wow, Hyp I B (lower body) kills.  Who ever decided 3x15 would be a good idea for BSS followed by step-ups?!?!?! And only 30 second rests...  WHATEVER! Alwyn is so cruel!

I think I tried with too much wieght.  My HRM said that for 42 minutes my Max HR was 181 (during goblet squats) and the average was 150!.  I couldn't even finish the last set of step-ups and my rests were more like 60 seconds and I was resting between legs too.  I was nasueous and didn't do my crunches because of that.

Bwwahahahah....  It better make me stronger!

Still going. I keep getting injured or distracted Undecided, but I'm just about done with 6 A/B workouts in Hyp I.  I think it's the "man of constant obligation" program... I'm not going to take a break because I've taken lots over the last couple of months.

I'm also playing on the Wii, and I've started doing a "complex" I found on t-nation.  It's sort of like the body-weight matrix, in that it's designed to get wipe you out after a round.  I'm doing that after my lifting sessions.  I only used a 25 pound barbell the first time, and while it made me tired, I think I need to go heavier on the next one.

Sounds like you are doing great!  What's next after Hyp I?

I'm honestly not sure.  I think Strength I is next... I read it the other night, but I've slept since then. lol..

lol....  I haven't done Strength yet, but I think Megan and Laura have!

I haven't done Strength yet.  I was intimidated by the different tempos and different number of reps in each set.  I don't like to think that much when I'm working out.  I sort of like to go on auto pilot and let my mind wander.  I'm working on Hyp II, and I plan to do Hyp III next.  That should keep me busy for a long time and then I'll have to figure out my next step.

Oh - yeah - I think it was KMK who did strength with Megan.  Anyone hear anything from her?  Sorry Laura.

Well I finished Hyp I and as soon as I get over this nasty virus I will start Strength I -- I'm a bit scared of it though.

One kind of interesting thing is that it seems you can do these back-to-back since they are a splilt routine?  So I've read of people doing Str. I A, then B, then rest day, then C, then D.  So 4 workouts per week.  Hmmm, I'll have to see.

This stupid virus is nasty, my whole body aches, muscles and joints.  Feels like I just fiinished a brutal lifting session.

I hope you feel better.  Ugh.  Drink lots of fluids if you can.

I had to go look up the exercises again to refresh my memory - this is the one with the 1 rep max - oh those are fun!  See if you can get a spotter for the bench press though.  You'll be surprised how strong you actually get by the end.

My best deadlift on this program was 165 lbs - that was before my knees decided to give me trouble though.

Holy crap!  165 = awesome!

Karozel - hope you are feeling better.  Is it the swine flu?  I only did 3 workouts per week with HYP I, even though 4 was ok to do.  HYP II is set up with upper and lower too, but he does say he encourages everyone to do 3x per week.  I am trying, but mostly getting in 2X.  I hope my dedication gets better soon!

Wow 165!!!  I've got aways to go to get there... but I'll try.  My PR for DLs is 135 right now, but during Hyp it was deadlift shrugs and such, so maybe I can do better after I get over this crud.

I am actually feeling better today, but still not up to lifting.  Plus I have a dinner to go to tonight.  Our contract got renewed, so the bosses are taking us out for Italian food.  Yum!!!

And no, the doc said if it was the flu I would almost definitely have a high fever, and I haven't run a fever at all.  So, just a virus that seems to be getting better.  I was mostly bothered because I had this same achey thing going last month.  Wasn't sure if I needed to worry about it or not.
