NROL Hypertrophy II

Quote  |  Reply

Tomorrow is my last Stage 6 workout from NROLFW.  I start Hyp II on Monday.  I still have some reservations.  There are 3 different workouts - A, B, C.  It is recommened you do three workouts a week, resluting in doing each workout once a week.  A and C concentrate on upper body, and only B concentrates on Lower body.  I don't like the idea of working my legs only once a week.  My legs need the most work.  I also don't like the idea of  25 reps.  Workout C calls for chin-ups.  I will never be able to do 2 sets of 25.  Currently I'm maxed on 6 reps.  Tues was my best day ever and I did four sets - 6, 5, 5, 5.  One more thing, workout C calls for towel bicep curls.  They involve dangling the dumbbell in a towel and lifting with the towel instead of gripping the dumbbell.  It looks very odd and it also looks like you could easily drop a dumbbell on your foot!!

I think I will still give this program a try, but my workouts may end up looking very different from the way Alwyn designed them.  I think I will throw in a lower body exercise or two each time, I will skip the towel curls, and I will not do 25 reps of anything.  I'll let you know how it goes!

Maybe I'm confused here.  When you pull your knees to your chest, it is more of a crunching/flexing motion at least that was the way I always thought of it.  Doing a superman or cobra extends the back.

Yeah - pulling your knees in would crunch your abs.  Since the back is the opposing muscle group, it would stretch as your abs flexed.  The superman or cobra would crunch your back and stretch your abs.

Whatever feels good is important!

Thanks ladies.  I'll try some stretching and foam rolling tonight.  I just rested today and wore an icyhot patch all day.  I'm feeling better already.  As much as I hate to, I might take one more day off.  Better to take the time to heal up front rather than reinjure myself or make it worse and have an even longer recovery time.  I'm glad I enjoy this program so much that I resent down time.  I wish I could have that much dicipline with my eating!

Well, here it is Thurs and I  still haven't gone back to the gym.  My posture resembles that of a hermit crab.  I am hurting.  Looks like I will have to rest until Mon and reassess.  The good news is, my appetite is more controlled without the lifting, so I have been able to keep calories low.  I don't think I will have lost much ground if I can get back at it by Mon.

Ugh, sorry you're still feeling it so bad, good decision to take it easy for another few days and let things heal up.

Do you know a good massage therapist?  That might help too.

I would love a good massage.  I think I will have to bribe my hubby though.  Not in the budget for a professional.

I finally finished this thing.  Of course the last workout was one of the 2 x 25s.  I really need a break because overall, this morning's workout was one of my more pathetic.

So, a week off lifting, then onto Fat Loss I.  Yes, there is some fat to lose, heh heh.

Congrats on finishing HYPII!  I can't wait to finish too!  I still have a ways - 8 more workouts, but I will definitely need a break after this one.

I was actually contemplating taking a break in the middle of it - or skipping the last 3 25 rep workouts.  Then yesterday, I had to decide since it was the 25 rep A workout.... so I did it.  Now I'll have to also do the 25 rep B & C workouts.  Might as well complete it correctly!  lol

I am looking forward to my break.  Let us know how FLI goes for you.

OMG - I may actually finish!  I was on a roll for 3X per week... then had to get a root canal last Monday... so did not do any workouts last week.

This week though on Monday & Today, I feel so much stronger!  I think I may have really needed the break anyway.  2 more workouts to go.  Finally!

Overall - My arms definitely got better (more defined) with HYP II!

Woot!!!  What's next?

Probably Strength I... If I can handle swapping out weight plates so much!

You can do it.  I did the squats from it for the second time Monday, and my glutes and hips are still making ugly noises at me today.  DOMS is so much fun!

I went out to lunch yesterday with some of the guys from work, and when I went to sit down I groaned so loud the waitress asked if I was okay.  LOL

hehehehhe...  I usually have to have my arms help me sit after a good workout - especially day 2.    Hubby wonders what all the groaning is in my sleep.  ouch!

Yay!  I finally finished HYPII...  That was the last of the 25 reps for a long while!

Karozel - will be joining you in Strength I, probably Friday!

WOOT!! Congrats on finishing it up!!!

I guess that means I need to get back in there.  I've been slacking... twice a week or so, but I keep letting things get in the way.  Need to quit procrastinating.
