NROLFW post workout shake.

I got this recipe off of the figureathlete website.

6 oz of plain nonfat yogurt (or vanilla but more calories)

1/4 cup of canned pumpkin (100 cal per cup)

1 scoop vanilla whey protein powder

apple pie spice, or cinnamon

ice

plus or minus splenda depending on your tastes.  If you use vanilla yogurt you won't need the splenda.

With the plain non fat yogurt it is only 225 calories and it has about 32 g of protein.  It's delicious.

This sounds really good -- going to give it a try!

I'm going to make this tomorrow, but with 1/2 cup frozen yogurt and 1/2 cup almond milk! Only 200 calories!

Emily:

What does almond milk taste like?  I am very curious about it.  I normally drink organic skim milk; have tried soy but can't stand it.  A friend recommended that I try almond milk, but I'm a bit leery.....

what kind?  How many cal?  I don't normally eat frozen yogurt but I'm willing to try if it's good and low cal.

I drink almond breeze because I also can't stand the taste of soy milk. The sweetened kind (60 cal/cup) tastes the best, I use it for cereal and things where I'm going to be able to taste it. It's very mildly sweet. I use the unsweetened kind (40 cal/cup) when it just needs to be mixed into things. It's not bad, just not sweet enough to stand alone IMO.

I was going to get stonyfield farm vanilla- it's 100 cal/cup. I haven't tried it yet, but I have a coupon, and I figure if it's getting mixed in it can't be horrible.

Thanks Emily -- I'll try it.

I just tried protein2go from Designer Whey. Mixed with water is only 50 calories per packet and 10 grs of protein. I put 2 packets in my 32oz water container and take it with me to the gym.

I have a really hard time getting more protein and this works really well for me.

Here's my current recipe.  I have to admit that I wouldn't exactly call it delicious, but it's at least better than merely edible.

2 scoops 365 vanilla whey protein (Whole Foods brand) 80 cals and 16 g protein/scoop
1 cup lowfat plain kefir - 120 cals and 14 grams protein
1/4 cup goji juice - 38 cals
4 large strawberries - 24 cals

342 cals and 46 g protein.  I drink half of it about 30 minutes before I work out and the rest of it right after.  I'm on maintenance cals so I can afford the extra calories for this.

My gym is a large 24 Hour Super Sport and they actually have a smoothie bar there but it's 4 bucks for a small protein shake!  Plus an extra 75 cents if you want another scoop of protein.

I'm going to be working on a protein bar recipe too to mix things up.  I've also tried hemp and rice protein powders which were disgusting.  My husband has some pea protein that I haven't tried yet, I'm dubious about it.

Whoops- it's 100 cal per half cup. I believe that's pretty much the lowest cal you're going to find for ice cream or froyo.
