That number on the cardio machine.
Splitting hairs here, but I would like to know all the same.
I / we / you are burning calories right now right? I'm 286 / M / 6'1" / 25yrs so my BMR is 2200 or 2063 for ideal (190 lbs) per 24 hours. That means in the 10 minutes to post this I'll have burned 15ish calories just by being alive.
So to my question. When I do 30 mins on a machine, it'll say I burned 520ish calories. Is that 520 in ADDITION to the 44ish I burned just by being alive, or does this 520 include that?
Put another way, if I wanted to get pedantic on my activity log I could add "resting" or whatever for 24 hours. Can I then add ONTO that 30 mins on the elliptical, or do I have to make "resting" 23.5 hours and add elliptical for 30 mins?
I know I'm splitting hairs over this but I would really like a decent answer. Mucho thank-ias. ![]()
When you add activities to your burn log, it subtracts out the calories you "would have" burned if you hadn't exercised. For instance, in your example you say you burned 520ish calories. If you add an activity log, your burn meter will not show the entire 520 calories added to what you already had. Instead it might show 450 more calories, it knows there are only 24 hours in the day. That's why you have to put in the time you spent as well as the calories.
Ok thanks for that.. but that number from the machine, is that total calories (being alive + effect of workout) or just the extra calories you burned from doing the exercise in addition to being alive?
Its just the extra calories, it doesn't include the calories your burning by plainly existing. Most of those numbers are off anywho.... on the treadmill I usually estimate about 100 cal per mile (give or take a few) Thats why the best way to log burned cals accurately would be to mark yourself as completely sedentary (just existing) and then adding the activities you do (because they do not already include you just existing). But I'm lazy so I just guess. lol
