Numbness in hands and dizzy after workout
Today at the gym I was doing a session with my personal trainer and my hands started to feel numb and I got dizzy. We cut our hour long session in half and he didn't have any idea why my hands would go numb. I have been home for about 30 minutes and I still feel pretty dizzy. I have been working with my trainer for several weeks now and have been hitting the gym for over five months and this has never happened. I am thinking I just over did it but would really like to hear if this has happened to anyone else so I don't totally freak out.
I get dizzy when I workout if I havent eaten anything recently. I have low blood sugar so that causes the lightheadness and sometimes tingling and loss of energy. Maybe you could try eating some peanut butter on whole wheat toast or a protein shake before you workout. Just to be safe I would try this.
This has happened to me numerous times over the years....Until I made the connection to dehydration.
I found that drinking more water BEFORE the workout, and sipping during the workout, put that experience to rest. It never happened again.
Also, another reason for it to happen to you, could be a rapid increase in blood pressure. This would normally happen if you exceed your weight lifting threshold (basically over do it), and don't control your breathing.
Lift light, lift more, breath steady, drink plenty.
Did your hands stay numb or get better after you stopped? Same as the others, I get dizzy if I don't eat or drink enough before I workout. But when my hands started to stay numb, it turned out to be a wrist problem.
Some ideas from personal experience...
I used to experience dizziness and numbness in my hands and back when I did strenuous activities or was very stressed. I was later diagnosed with a neck hernia which also compresses my nerves.
I also experience dizziness, numbness, and have cold sweats when my blood sugar drops too low (strenuous exercise!)...
Hope you can figure out what is going on..

I was just about to say it happens to me when I get dehydrated!!!
Thank you all so much. I can now say that it was most likely dehydration. I usually buy a gallon of water every morning before I work out and drink it throughout the day. That morning a just bought a bottle at the gym. So I guess my body is used to more water then I gave it that day. I am going to really watch my heart rate as well. Thanks again everyone.
