Numbness while running

Quote  |  Reply

Yo.

So everytime I jog, my hands get tingly, cold and numb. This usually happens around the 25-30 min. mark. It's pretty annoying and I have no idea why it happens. I don't hold my hands in an awkward configuration or anything like that. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Wow, this board is helpful!

Maybe they're just cold!  Try some light-weight gloves.  :-)

It just means that enough blood isn't circulating to your fingers.

It's the same as if you were to sit cross legged and your foot went tingly and cold.

As to why the blood isn't circulting to your fingers, I do not have the answer to that. =\ Maybe try searching on google?

Could be something like "Raynaud's syndrome" which you can google for more info. But if it takes 1/2 hour to happen, it's probably just standard "coldness" and you need better running gloves. Also, be sure you have on a hat and enough clothing elsewhere so your body doesn't have to work so hard to stay warm and has energy, even while jogging, to warm your hands.

I tend to have very, very cold hands and feet, but my hands, at least, will warm up when running if I'm properly covered everywhere. I live in a cold climate (Wisconsin) so I know how uncomfortable it can be.

Good luck.

This happens to me when I run too - mostly I think it's just from tension in my shoulders or back - try stretching your upper back, neck and arms  a little next time it happens.

This used to happen to me ALL the time. My fingers would be cold and tingly. They would also be kind of swollen so they would be hard to bend. As my running has improved, so has the finger tingling. I also shake my arms out every mile or so. I think this helps loosen up my arms/hands/shoulders since I tend to hold them fairly rigidly while I run. I hope this is somewhat helpful!
