Which nutrients does a pescatarian lack?
Asked by thedog1212 on Dec 11, 2008 in Alternative & Integrative Nutrition

I am 15 and I have been a pescatarian for 4 months. I would like to keep my hair and skin healthy too

Answer

Pescetarians eat vegetables, fruit, grains, and fish, and may or may not eat eggs and dairy products.  Because pescetarianism is not a vegetarian diet, you should not have unmet nutritional needs, unless you do not drink milk or eat a balanced diet.  A diet that does not contain dairy products could lack protein and vitamin D and would definitely fall short on calcium.  Girls need 1300 mg of calcium a day, which may be taken in the form of calcium supplements. Milk contains other nutrients too, but they are more widely available in foods.
