Nutrition Consulting

I have NO idea where to post this so if there's a better place, mods, feel free to move it!

I am interested in getting certified as a nutrition consultant to see if it's something I enjoy doing before investing time & money in a full blown education. ACE, AFPA, CHEK and probably other organizations offer nutrition consultant certifications, each with slight variations on a seemingly similar theme.

I'm wondering if anyone knows:
- What such a certification entitles me to do, vs what I need an actual degree/Reg Dietitian title for;
- Which certifications are best in terms of what you learn as well as what's most highly regarded.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks :)

Well I don't know if you tried this already, but go to eatright.org. I am in college right now studying to be a (DTR; Dietetic Technician, Registered). Try this website out, we use this website to obtain knowledgeable information about nutrition and health. But if you want to gain access to certain areas it does require a password for members only.

 So hopefully that helps a little. Good luck to you on your journey! I'd like to add this, I am enjoying the different panels, clinicals, and studies so far that I need to obtain my credentials. Its been a great deal to my diet/fitness regimen... but again it does require a degree, I think its worth it! Wink

Thanks youngkeish. I have looked at eatright.org, but what I want is to be able to do some nutrition counseling without actually having to get a degree in it yet, to get a sense of whether I like it enough to get a degree. I think eatright.org only has info for those actually getting proper schooling -- which I definitely see the value of, but just can't make happen at this point in my life.

Anyone else know anything about this? or perhaps a better place to post and ask?
try ISSA, they have a very good program. you can also find certification people in your area, ask arouond at your gym.

ISSA just so happens to be running a "very time limited special" today and tomorrow where their courses are $50 off. Do you know if they do this all the time?

Also, does anyone know what I can do with a certification, vs what requires an actual RD title?
