What a nutritionist suggested. Opinions?
My neighbour is a nutritionist and he told me that if I plan to eat 1800 calories on average per day (which btw he said were way too many for someone my size..?!) that I should do it like this:
Day1 600
Day2 1500
Day3 3000
Day4 600
Day5 2000
Day6 4000
Day7 1000
Is it not a bit extreme? he sais many people recommend to do it this way. So today I totaled 3000 because I went out for lunch with him and he insisted I try it for a couple of weeks, lol. I'll let you guys know how this little experiment went in due course.
This sounds like a very bad idea to me! Eating 600 calories/day is ridiculous. You can zig-zag calories but more like:
Day 1: 1600
Day 2: 2000
Day 3: 1700
Day 4: 1900
Day 5: 1500
Day 6: 2000
Day 7: 1900
That way you won't starve one day and feel painfully full the next. Also, unless you're either very small or you are quite sedentary, 1800 is perfectly reasonable for maintaining.
This is just my 2 cents. Generally, women shouldn't eat less than 1200 cals/day. (Men: 1500/day)
I agree with the above that, that's a pretty silly way and unnatural way to eat. Most people don't eat the exact same calories every day but they will have a fairly similar eating pattern each day, eat at the same times, roughly the same quantities. Yes, every so often someone might have an extra-large meal (Christmas, a special dinner) or they'll be feeling sick so they won't eat much... that's going to balance out naturally. But to deliberately go from 600 to 3000..... well, that's just ridiculous because you're forcing yourself to massively overeat or undereat regardless of how your body feels.
I'd seriously doubt your neighbour's qualificiations. Never mind what he 'insists'.... your body is yours, not his guinea-pig to experiment on. Smile and nod along but don't take him too seriously.
Following that kind of extreme diet will only screw up your metabolism and set you up for binges. Like everyone else has said, zig-zagging is a good method for weight loss, and but_not_quite has given you a great example of how to do it.
I highly suggest you go and find a real nutritionist or dietician to work with if that's what your looking for instead of relying on your neighbor. If he really is a nutritionist (which I highly doubt) he should have his license revoked, or at least suspended until he gets some proper training and knowledge.
You don't say what your size is, so we can't say if 1800 is too much, but this extreme zig zagging, as the others said, is not a good idea.
OMG is ur neighbour actually trying to kill u?
thats ridiculous, he shud be shot for suggesting that. just goes to show 'nutritionist' doesnt mean doctor
thats shocking
600 is not ok, ever
ul be starving, then stretching ur stomach with 4000, only to be back eating less than a quarter of that the next day
dont ever go under 1200. how tall are u? id go with this site its worked for 100s/1000s of people x
Your neighbour sounds like a nut job.
