NuvaRing and "sexy-time"

Quote  |  Reply

I recently just got the NuvaRing birth control, and when me and my boyfriend "did it" last night I left it in, and he complained that he could "feel it" and after a while it started hurting him

so my question is, can I take it out during sex? if so for how long?

I know that the instructions say that you can take it out for sexual intercourse, but it didnt give me a time limit, I don't want to leave it out for too long and end up with it not "working"... and by the way my boyfriend can last 45+ minutes most of the time!!

should I be setting an alarm? I don't exactly want to give him a time limit, or tell him to hurry up!! hahaha!!

really no one?

I tried looking it up on the NuvaRing website, but the only topic remotely related to this was:

Will my partner or I feel NuvaRing® during intercourse?

During intercourse, some sexual partners may feel NuvaRing® in the vagina. However, in clinical studies 9 out of 10 (90%) of couples did not find this to be a problem.

...umm yeah that doesn't help! I must be the 1 out of 10 cases where it IS a problem, wheres the info on that???

I don't have NuvaRing, but from the NuvaRing website it looks like it's OK to have it out for up to three hours...so have at that marathon sex!

My doc also told me it is safe to leave it out for up to three hours (as long as you remember to put it back :-)

My bf never said he could feel it, but he said it made me taste chemically (sorry tmi)

 oh okay, cool... thanks!!

I was told up to three hours out is safe :)

I've been on it for over a year and always remove it during intercourse.

my bf never minded it

i stopped using it though b/c it made me all gushy

since we're already way tmi

You can totally take it out and put it back in - in fact I would reccomend that during... sexy time (as you call it! ha ha!). This complain has happened with me before too... so taking it out is just the best except it's a bit odd when I say (in the middle of getting things started) "oh excuse me for one second... gotta go to the bathroom!" ha ha ha! But in the end, it doesn't ruin a thing!

I have been on NuvaRing for 3 years, at least, and my husband has never complained about feeling it....  The only issue that has ever happened has been it falling out during particularly ... um... "creative" sessions ;)

I have heard of people taking it out during intercourse, however.  I think it can be out for about 2-3 hours, you just have to be careful to use additional protection, which you should be using, anyway.

:)

 umm, "gushy"??

please explain

...

but anyways thanks for the info everyone! =)

My OB said I can take it out for up to 3 hours, but I haven't done it (taken it out) at all. I don't trust that. My husband doesn't feel anything and I thought for sure he would, but it doesn't seem to bother him at all. Anyway, I've heard a lot of stories about people getting pregnant quickly if their Nuva falls out or what not, so I just leave it in.
