I think we are going to eat at Hangawi a Korean restaraunt on E 32nd

http://www.hangawirestaurant.com/

all vegetarian...I think the menu looks like it may be vegan too.

I am pretty excited to try this, has anyone been there before?

Any other vegan suggestions?  We will be in lower manhattan and Brooklyn friday-saturday

Well, if you're going to be in Lower Manhattan, definitely check out:

Gobo

Red Bamboo

I've never been to Gobo (but I want to VERY soon) but my veggie friends say it's amazing, and Red Bamboo is awesome.

Red bamboo is awesome, along with the one in lower manhattan, there is one is brooklyn as well if you are looking for a quieter outdoor atmosphere

also, try White Ginger, a Pan-Asian vegan cafe

380 broome st   between mott and mulberrr st.

I love Curly's on 14th street between 1st and 2nd. They can make your order vegan too.

a bit lower than mid-town, in gramercy, there are many veggie indian places, most of which are kosher too.  around 23rd and lex.  there were 5, went to 2, both good.  there's also a place called «rice» in that area which is very good.

have fun in NYC!

Thanks for all the suggestions!

Lunch was at the Dosa Man's cart a.k.a
NY Dosas
in Washington Square Park - so delicious, he has truly earned all the acclaim.  Everything was vegan, including the "drumstick" which was some type of soy meat on a sugar cane stick with some spicy dipping sauce.  But that was only a novelty, the dosas were truly sublime.

We did go to
Hangawi
for dinner and  it was more amazing than I imagined.  Totally vegan, everything was beautiful - the food, the smooth wooden utensils, the staff - I highly recommend.

On Saturday morning we headed down to Chinatown and spent most of the day there.  Next time I am going to bring a big sack and do some produce shopping on the streets! Everything looked so good and was half the price of the grocery stores back in W. Massachusetts.  Lots of fruit and all kinds of veggies, greens and mushrooms.  I bought some organic buckwheat soba noodles for $1.75 (usually over $3 back home) and a really cool stainless steel thermal mug that is designed to brew loose tea - hope that it encourages me to cut back on the coffee and drink more green tea (and Lapsang...almost Lapsang season).

One "treat" we indulged in was a visit to
Doughnut Plant
(not to be confused with planet donut,).  They use all organic flours and they are trans fat free.  There are even a few vegan selections every day. We tried a VALHRONA CHOCOLATE DONUT - yum.  The doughnuts were light and flavorfull...and not too, too sweet, but of course sweet, they are doughnuts after all, and after I ate it I didn't feel like I had a rock in my tummy.

I can't wait to eat my way through the city again soon.

I can't believe I've never stopped by the NY Dosas cart!  My best friend lives right around the corner!!  However, it's tough to want to grab that when there's Red Bamboob and Gobo right around the corner.  I'll have to try it next time I'm in the city.
