My oatmeal is BORING.
For the past two months, every time I've eaten oatmeal (usually 4-6 times a week, but I alternate with toast, eggs, etc.) I've made it the following way:
1/3 cup rolled oats
2/3 cup milk
1 tbsp flaxseed
1 tsp. cinnamon (I love my cinnamon. <3)
1-2 tbsp. apple butter
This mix of things seems to satisfy me, but it's getting incredibly BORING. I'm looking for awesome oatmeal ideas (Not necessarily low-calorie- I'm sort of trying to gain/maintain, not lose.) to spice up my morning a little.
And yes, I eat hot cereal in the summer. :)
(And yes, I've also tried cold muesli.)
Thankye! :D
In my personal opinion, Peanut butter (or any nut butter) is amazing, but the trick is to not mix it in to the oatmeal entirely, just put a gob on top and eat abit with each spoonful - it tastes alot better. Somehow when you mix it all up it just tastes abit odd and bland
I've been mixing in cinnamon and sometimes splenda.
I also like adding some raisins.
Another good thing to add is bananas, either sliced into very small pieces or "mashed" into the oatmeal.
Adding a drop of vanilla extract is also quite good.
Wow, am I the only one here who likes her oatmeal salty? I make my oatmeals (and porridges) with water and salt only, and I love it that way. Come to the think of it, I've never even tried sweet oatmeals, and I tried porridge with sugar only to spit it out..
my recent discovery with regard to oatmeal has been cocao powder.
1/2 cup instant oats, dry
1 cup frozen mixed berries
1 tsp honey
1 tbsp cocao powder (makes it chocolaty and glorious tasting)
and I also added a bunch of spices including allspice, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, and cloves. It was the most amazing oatmeal ever. You can change up the fruit you use in there, if you don't like berries. I also put some salt in my oatmeal to open up the other flavors in the dish, just a couple shakes of the salt shaker gets the job done. i know someone suggested making the oatmeal with milk instead of water, that will definitely add flavor.
