oatmeal...everyday....twice?
i've read several places how good oats are for you and i've been having a bowl of oats/oat bran for breakfast every morning for a year or so...really. Lately, since it keeps me full and is what I crave basically for every meal I've been having it for lunch/dinner too and eating the same fruits/veg/yog etc with it for the past three days for a balanced diet.
typical day;
1/3c oat bran, 2 cups fruit, 1/2c greek yogurt, coffee, cinnamon
fruit in-between
pre-work- 1/2c cottage cheese, 1/2tbsp organic peanut butter, 1-2c veggies
after work- either 1/2c cottage cheese or yogurt, 1/2c oats, 1/2tbsp peanut butter and more fruits/veggies depending on what my exchanges are during the day.
the night eating/bingeing has stopped and since i'm a recovering anorexic i know that sticking with the same foods all the time because they feel "safe" is bad but since i'm no longer in weight-gain mode and need to lose a bit of weight (and still stay healthy) i was wondering if this diet is really that bad?
Reason: Moved from Weight Loss to Health & Support forum
It's not bad but you might want to include other types of foods in your diet so it's not always the same. :)
And yeah, it's not bad to eat oatmeal twice in a day! I have it at least once a day, sometimes twice :)
The Health and Support forum would be good for you ![]()
I think you need to eat better, you aren't getting a proper lunch, which is even more important when your other two meals are always the same, and hardly proper meals as it is. Hopefully this is constructive criticism. x
okay thanks... my calories completely depend upon whether or not i go for an extra tablespoon of peanut butter, snack on a piece of bread in between....extra yogurt...etc..but usually come to around 1500, sometimes 1200 sometimes 1800
If you are truly a recovering anorexic and you want to be eating no less than 2500 calories per day, maybe more.
Why ar you trying to lose weight if you are in recovery? Does your therapist, doctor or nutritionist know about your plan?
At what you are eating you are certain to keep losing. If this is truly your goal we cannot support you here. Calorie Count's mission is to promote healthy and sustainable weight management. It does not sound like the plan you are following is very healthy and it has nothing to do with the oatmeal twice a day (which is totally fine if you like it).
i ate 3 packets of oatmeal today :)
if you're eating nonfat yogurt it looks like your calories are under 1000 which is nowhere near enough.
You definitely need more protein and fat and a greater variety of grains for optimal nutrition. aim for at least 2000 calories. what are your stats??
I love oatmeal! I've been having it for breakfast nearly every day for over a year. I even have it for a snack on occasion. I don't substitute it for lunch or dinner though.
and you wonder why you're binging when you eat that amount of food
I agree with the other posters-if thats truly all you're eating, then you're definitely not getting a large enough variety of nutrients in your daily diet. There's absolutely nothing wrong with eating oatmeal twice a day, its such a healthy food, but make sure you integrate other food groups in your diet also. Because it mostly looks like your diet consists of yogurt/cottage cheese, fruit, and oatmeal...with a tiny bit of pb thrown in. Why not try making a big delicious stir fry with lots of veggies, and tofu or chicken for protein, and some brown rice? Yummy! Not that I am implying that you don't know of other good foods to eat, thats just an idea I like a lot.
lookinfohealth,
I agree with cowcow and others. Are there any veggies you can tolerate. salad bar from the store is easy to "make" if you don't like cookin' (i dont cook enuf).
I wish I could eat more peanut butter as it has many good qualities and is high in calories which is good for you. Have you tried it with banana yummm.
Oat meal is great to eat espec with banana, craisins, nuts etc...but not a sub for lunch or dinner.
Do you like nuts? I just read that walnuts have alot of nutrients and make a great snack. You would not need to worry about their calorie level since you need to gain.
1500 calories is a struggle for me but I have increased my intake of veggies since they are lower in calories.
Good Luck and keep on eatin"!\
