I'm sorry if this is a repeat post.
BUTTT what are some things that you put in your oatmeal?
Right now I make :
1/2cup oatmeal
3/4 cup vanilla soy milk
1 tbsp PB
1 tbsp flax seeds
I am kinda getting sick of this and I would really like some new ideas. Sometimes I put bananas in it for a treat... but that can get pretty filling. I tend to like having a high calorie breakfast, so I don't care about the calories in the additions. Thank you!
1 tbsp honey, 1/4 cup raisins (I like golden), peaches, dried apples, dried/fresh cranberries, cinnamon, maple syrup (can use sugar-free if you'd like?), fruit preserves.
Just what I tend to put in mine.
You could slice some banana's. Or top it with cinnamon.
Or add an boiled egg. Or raisins. Or apple.
I don't know, but there is an endless amount of healthy possibilites.
I have not tried too much of a variety with the toppings/add ins yet, but here are a few ways I have enjoyed them so far:
- 1/2 banana (or more) mashed & cooked in OR melted in the microwave and stirred in after, with either peanut butter/almond butter/nut butter cooked in or topped with just cinnamon and raisins
- 1 peach (warmed in the microwave & chopped) then mix some yogurt (I use vanilla) in with the cooked oatmeal and top it with the peach chunks
- 1 peach chopped & cooked in then topped with raisins and/or cinnamon
- Topped with some blueberries and a generous scoop of almond butter
- Topped with some blueberries and coconut flakes (I just recently tried this and it is soo yummy!)
Hope this helped a bit. If not, I highly recommended Chocolate Covered Katie. I have browsed her website quite a few times now and I must say, she does have amazing oatmeal creations (aswell as other delicious looking recipes). Many of her recipes (and other oatmeal recipes) are high on my "to make" list. GL with your oatmeal!
These were the oats I had this morning:
1/3 cup dry, mixed with 3/4 cup chocolate milk and 1.5 tbsp PB -- I would've added a sliced/mashed banana but we are out. If you don't have chocolate milk you can use cocoa powder and sugar.
If you want to go for something different, try making it savory. Cook with only water, and then mix in an egg with some cheese =]
- pumpkin, raisin, maple syrup, cinnamon
- Mix it with pudding (butterscotch oatmeal, anyone?)
- Coconut milk/Water
- and many, many more.
:)
Warm applesauce,dried cherries,and almond milk!![]()
bananas, honey, raisins, almonds, dark chocolate (melted in the microwave), etc.
If its still hot out, what I do is take a cup of raw oats, a cup of milk/soy/rice/water whathaveyou, mix together in a bowl and stick it in the fridge the night before with a good amount of cinnamon on top. In the morning it is all absorbed and very refreshing. Raisins and flax seed meal also work well...i'm not one for sweet oatmeal anymore!

I agree. I prefer my oatmeal prepared in the style of bircher muesli: I combine a 1/4 cup of oats, 1/4 cup of milk, and a handful of dried cherries. Add a bit of sugar or half of a grated apple if you wish. Cinnamon, vanilla extract, or almond extract also add a nice touch of flavor.
I like to add a little honey, cinnamon. frozen berries (thawed) and when I need a chocolate fix I toss in about 10 chocolate chips.
I buy plain oatmeal and always put strawberries and blueberries in it. It's quite tasty!
Things I put in oats:
Banana (half mashed in, half sliced on top)
Chopped apple (with cinnamon and sugar makes it like apple pie filling)
Canned pumpkin or grated carrot
Walnuts or almonds (or both!)
Raisins, dried figs or dried cherries
Flavored peanut butter or Nutella
Cocoa powder/brown sugar (1TBS and 1/2 tsp)
Cinnamon
Agave nectar, honey, maple syrup or jam/preserves
Coconut flakes
I also used to top my oats with trail mix or granola. Creamy/crunchy is always a good combo in my opinion.
I've also tried cooking my oats in chocolate soymilk and with Carnation Instant Breakfast powder - both tasty. You can also try using a juice (OJ with cranberries and walnuts is quite good)
Omg, I am an oatmeal FIEND. Like, I effing love it. Would eat it breakfast, lunch and dinner if I could. Here's some combos/add ons I like...
- Nutty Oats - almonds, walnuts and pecans! Great for a gainer like me
- Classic Winter Oats - banana, almonds and raisins (when you can't get fresh fruit)
- Dried and Fruity - dried fruit and wheat germ
- Berrilicious, So Delicious - blueberries, raspberries, blackberries and/or strawberries (frozen or fresh!)
- Chocoats - hot chocolate packet, some raisins, maybe banana?
- *running out of namess* - Try a dollop of almond butter instead/as well as your peanutbutter
- Cappuccinoats - instant cappuccino packet in your oats w/ something else...blueberries?
- Applecinnaoats - peeled and cored apples and LOTS of cinnamon!
- Seedy Oats - pumpkin, sunflower, flax or whatever seeds you have!
- Pumpkin Oats - mush up pumpkin and mix it with your oats!
Also, maybe try some other flavours of soy milk? I like strawberry (: Oh, and have you tried oatbran - interesting, creamy oat alternative (: OR make an oat PANCAKE!
Here's a Kath Eats tribute to oats (:
