I need some new cheap ideas for oatmeal. I normally eat it with either a banana and some half and half, or sometimes I also add an eggwhite for protein. How do you like your oatmeal?
Hi Alysee,
Oats have been discussed so much on CC that I think it almost warrants it's own forum ![]()
If you do a quick search of the forums using the search engine, you'll come up with lots of responses very quickly. I put anything from spinach to pumpkin to well, you name it in my oatmeal! The possibilities are endless.
Oh man I love oatmeal! I buy those old fashioned oats and put in a couple sprinkles of cinnamon and a dash of vanilla flavoring. If you have berries or some fruit you can chop up to put inside, I tend to throw something else in there for breakfast. If you like it a little sweeter one splenda usually does the trick.
I also used to put some peanut butter in or even sugar free jam adds flavor.
For a dessert treat I toss one splenda and cinnamon with uncooked oats, lay out on a slightly greased baking sheet and bake for a couple minutes. They become crunchy and slightly brown, which is a great addition to just about anything (baked apples, broiled peaches, low fat ice cream) for a crisp like dessert.
Quick oats, 3 packs of splenda, and a pinch of salt. If I want to get sassy I add some cinnamon or a little vanilla extract.
I like my oats to taste OATY! I <3 Quaker.
I like going with not sweet oats. Add some salt, pepper, cayenne pepper, and maybe some sauteed veggies like mushrooms, onions, peppers. delish! but if you want sweet i say go with a sprinkle of splenda, cinnamon, and an apple in chunks or rasins.
I personally prefer them a bit sweet. I'll add some mashed banana, some berries, cinnamon, a bit of pumpkin spice flavoring, chocolate milk, vanilla, cocoa (usually in conjunction with something slightly sweet, as cocoa powder is verrrryy bitter on its own), or apple/cinnamon/brown sugar combo. I'll do this with either the plain old fashioned quaker oatmeal or with steel cut oats.
Just finished my oatmeal! Had dried granola, brown sugar and half/half in it. So yummy
1 and half teaspoons of organic cane sugar plus cinnamon, salt, cloves, ginger, nutmeg, and milk. It's creamy and sweet.

Ha ha me too. I mix them with tvorog, Farmers Cheese, and cheese. I also make the "masala Dosa" with them. I use steel cut oats.

I prefer the steel cut oats. They take quite a bit longer to cook, but are so worth it if you have the time. (If I think I'm going to be in hurry in the morning. I'll add them to boiling water the night before and shut off the heat. By moring all I have to do is heat them thru.
I love mine with almost any kind of fruit, especially berries, apples, peaches etc.. I often also add milled flax seed, some cinnamon and sugar, or nutmeg. I've even used apple pie or pumpkin pie spice.
Ocassionally I'll add some molasses or agave, or use stevia. I've also added wheat germ, amaranth and or soy or almond milk, or soy yogurt (real yogurt if you do dairy).
I love my oatmeal.
I also have a great recipe for making veggie burgers with quick oats (you need the kind that are ready almost instantly).
