Ok well I had oatmeal for breakfast today for the first time ever becuase i found out how much fibre it had. So i made it and had a few bites and was like wow this is nasty. So i threw it out and just had cereal instead. So i am wondering what is a way to add some flavour into it becuase its so nasty

I like to add a packet or so of splenda. That makes it edible without adding (maybe one) calories. You could add the splenda a couple slices of fresh fruit too.
I add a little bit of brown sugar and sugar free maple syrup. Eating it just plain is, well you're right, not tasty. Even adding some fruit can help sweeten it up.
what i do is make the oatmeal, then i mix in a bunch of strawberries and zap it in the microwave so the strawberries get warmed up too. then sprinkle with a little brown sugar (you don't need much sugar cause of the berries. it's tasty!

Oh, gosh, there are SO many ways to make oatmeal tasty...

First of all, there's lots of different flavors that you can buy--I like Quaker's Lower Sugar Maple & Brown Sugar flavor, for example, but there's a lot more if you're in a hurry and might not have time to add all your own flavorings.

One of my personal favorites (that I learned from CC!) is to add some canned pumpkin, vanilla soymilk, and pumpkin pie spice (the spice after you're done microwaving it, lol).

Another tasty way is to add vanilla soymilk and a chopped apple--the apple gets all warm and tasty in the microwave. And then add lots of cinnamon.

i buy quaker high-fiber, wild berry medley flavoured oatmeal and it's soo good and filling and only 150 calories with 5g of fiber so you don't even need to add anything. (:

I like the flavored varieties of oatmeal.  I eat oatmeal every morning for breakfast with a banana.

Today I hate Apple and cinnamon oatmeal.  I also love maple and brown sugar oatmeal, or cinnamon and spice oatmeal.  There are so many other kinds than just plain oatmeal.

If I eat the plain, I'll add a packet of sweet n low or splenda, and a sliced banana and maybe some strawberries.

I also agree that heatin the fruit with the oatmeal is good.

Its good for you and filling.  Hopefully you can grow to like it!

I make regular oatmeal with a 1/2c. vanilla soymilk, a tsp of sugar and a few shakes of cinnamon.... yum!!
yeah i know what you mean. when i was younger, there was just something about the texture of oatmeal that turned me off. that, and that we only had the maple and brown sugar oatmeal.

now, i love it! most kinds, actually. my favorite is the BananaBread oatmeal with strawberry preserves in it, or the oatmeals that have the raisins in 'em...but no matter what oatmeal i have, i always add cinnamon and/or pumpkin pie spice. you just gotta be careful of how much liquid you put it in it (especially if you use water) or else it wont' have the right flavor.

I guess oatmeal's an acquired taste...like rice cakes

im going to try it with fruit in it next time thanks guys

wat if i put some chocolate milk in it lol?

canadaleaf - I'm with the posts above - did you sweeten it at all?  Or just cook plain oats?  even if you don't care for artificial sweeteners, even 2 tsp of sugar is only 32 calories and will do the trick for a serving of oatmeal.

sugarbaby- me too with the sugar free syrup!  Usually I would use sweet-n-low (my husband is a pink-packeter from way back and that's what we stick with) but I thought, there has to be a way to give it a little "oomph" - I love the maple-y flavor the syrup adds.  Also, sometimes I'll put 1/2 a banana and some cinnamon in it - Mmmmm, Bananas Foster Oatmeal!!

yes oatmeal is very nasty by itself. i normally add 4 packets of splenda (i know..i think i'm going to just take the cals for brown sugar to get off this artificial crap), some almonds, .25 cup of go lean crunch, splash of milk, cinnamon. you can also add tbsp of sf maple syrup or some fruit like banana or strawberries. i just added pumpkin to mine the other day and it was good. try adding some vanilla while its cooking.
QUAKER WEIGHT CONTROL OATMEAL=THE BEST :D

160 cals, 1g of sugar, 3g of fat, and 6g fiber and i think 7g protein..i eat it everyday

BTW, one packet of splenda=4 calories..the FDA is allowed to say its 0 cal becuz its under 5..how lame.

so 5 packs is 20 cals, be careful ;)
If you're having instant, try regular rolled oats. They only take a couple of minutes longer to cook and don't taste like nasty paste (I actually used to like instant ok, but have gotten used to regular, and when I tried making a packet of instant the other day had to throw it out because it tasted so nasty)
I eat plain steel cut oatmeal and I love it:) sometimes I add some milk and almonds and it is ready to go to my stomach:)
Call me crazy, but I like oatmeal just fine by itself. I add less water than reccomended, zap it in the microwave, and then wolf it down. I just love the thicker texture for some reason. Occasionally if I have time I'll chop up a Gala apple and toss it in before I microwave it, then add some cinammon and skim milk. Yummy.

Slow cooked old fashioned mushy oatmeal, there's no way it's staying down if I try to eat it.  Unbearable.  I can however eat blended old fashioned oatmeal.  Throw it right into the blender or a coffee grinder, then mix it into a protein shake, no problem.
I like to smash bananas in it; gives it a nice flavor

Keep in mind you can buy diffrent flavors of Oatmeal.

Personally, I don't mind the "plain" taste. I just like how it fills me up!
Use steel cut (Irish) oats for better texture, and add vanilla soymilk, two spoonfulls of milled flax seed, and lots of cinnamon.  You don't even need to add any sugar.

Not sure if it's available where you are at but I add a packet of this instant drink mix called Greens To Go to my quick oats every morning and while the "apple melon" flavor isn't amazing it's a whole lot better than that cardboard flavor plain oats and water have.

You are supposed to mix this stuff with bottled water but someone suggested doing this alternate way to me so I gave it a go and got hooked.

heres their site: http://www.greenstogo.com/

I get mine from Costco, oh and if anybody does try this a quick word of warning. The end result of this mixture will give your oats a gross greenish color so when you start eating try not to make yourself sick ;)

My brother uses stuff like ground cinnamon and coffee creamers to spruce up his oats but I don't drink milk and cinnamon alone doesn't really appeal to me.
