Oatmeal - too good 2 B true?
Hey,
I have just discovered the wonder that is home cooked, plain oatmeal with salt and water and 0 cal sweetner. And apparently it just has 150 cals per cup.
Is this real? I feel so full and i've had only 300 cals of porridge, with a glass of milk so far.

Yeah it's real. It's also why I will never buy cold cereal again.
I always get the prepackaged flavored oatmeal, they're 150-170 calories :)
then add water or whatver and yea its only 150

Okay, so my 1/2 cup dry is 150 like I thought. That's good.
Here is a recipe to try!!!
Plain dry oats, 1 tbls of organic PB - put in microwave 25 seconds until PB is warm... stir. Drizzle honey on top.
This is one of my favorite desserts.
It's all good. One of my staples, especially when I need something substanstial. If bland, try some fruit (I love banana).
Also substantial is a baked potato (med size-160 cal.). Great for dinner. Just be careful with the toppings.
If you want that oatmeal cookie taste, let me recommend using the cal-free sweetener of your choice, then adding a bit of SF maple(flavored) syrup, a dash of cinnamon, and a few raisins.
Voila ... oatmeal cookie flavor, and you've only added maybe an additional 20 calories, depending on how many raisins you use!
I always hated gooey, pasty oatmeal, then I tried steel-cut oats. They take about 20 minutes to cook, but they keep some crunch.
Multi-grain hot cereal cooks in five minutes, also delicious.
I add raisins or chopped dried apricots while it cooks
The gooey part is the cholesterol-sucking soluble fiber.
Hi, this is my first post on this forum but I really appreciate the good vibe from everyone here.
Re: oatmeal. I have a cholesterol problem and have found that at least one serving of old-fashioned oats per day has really made a dent in my numbers, especially my LDLs. Of course I have changed other things about my diet also, but my doctor is really high on oatmeal as a means of improving cholesterol.
I "dress up" my oatmeal with a couple of tablespoons of pumpkin (not the pie mix but plain), which adds good Vitamin A, some ginger and cinnamon, along with about a 1/2 packet of sugar substitute and occasionally some raisins. I find that this really fills me up.
